I'm sure the Magats would agree, if he'd been a registered Dem. that donation was a token amount like $20 or something, I think. not sure that really matters mind you, maybe that's all he could afford. they rarely are answered though, to anyone's real satisfaction. unless he left a note or something I guess.
I know just about zero about guns. just heard a guy on tv (didn't catch his name) saying that to him, an AR15 (or whatever it was) just grazing someone's ear - not ripping it off completely - is like a miracle shot. anyone have any insight on this?
there is still one way. if centrist and independents get reminded and told and bombarded with enough facts about his misdeeds and intentions to suggest to them the basic decency that it should be impossible for them to vote for him in November and he loses. The Jan 6th case, at least, and perhaps the Georgia State case can swipe the b@stard.....
It's not the weapon of choice for even medium range sniping, that's for sure. My first thought after watching the replay was that if Trump hadn't turned his head just as the sniper fired, he'd have probably taken it in the back of the head. The 'miracle' is that it took off a piece of his ear without hitting his fat head.
I like that he stayed standing on stage and pumped his fist to the crowd while shots were being fired instead of hitting the deck. Totally normal reaction.
He didn't. He hit the deck straight away. The fist pumping was after the shooting had stopped and they were taking the tub of lard out of the arena
I was an active duty Marine. Our rifle qualifying course was 200, 300, and 500 yards with an M16A2 - all much farther away than the shooter was with a similar style weapon.
Yup I qualified with the same weapon in the Army. That distance is a pretty simple shot using basic technique.
what is weird, is that someone gets shot, is almost killed, is piled on by the SS agents, and as he's pulled to his feet he (a) complains about his shoes and (b) plays to the crowd. and this by a guy who is a well-known chickenshit bastard who doesn't have the internal fortitude to fire people face-to-face (the tv show was all bullshit).
JD Vance for VP, ladies and gents. you remember him - the guy who called Trump "America's Hitler" in 2016.
i always just assumed you wouldn't get any kinf of accuracy factor with a high speed weapon. In the Irish Reserve Defence back in my teenage day we shot 300 with single shot rifles with sight calibration - Enfields, FN's etc.... Always assumed the semi-automatic rifles didnt; have barrels that were tuned (rifled) for accuracy like you say.... (I guess I thought they would have had more internal rifling - to abate the heat factor....
“I’m a ‘never Trump’ guy. I never liked him.” “My god what an idiot.” “I find him reprehensible.” - JD Vance 2016. "I will bend over as far as I can for him." - JD Vance - post Tramp election and now (2024).
“I go back and forth between thinking Trump is a cynical asshole like Nixon who wouldn’t be that bad (and might even prove useful), or that he’s America’s Hitler.”
Funnily enough I researched this after the shooting (supposedly from 200m). Depending on conditions, it seems a half decent marksmen could make the shot from up to 800m. A good "sniper" from over 1,000m. Think the record for a confirmed kill was around 2,500m. So this guy was either a very very average shot or didn't have a very good rifle.
As insights go, this wasn’t a bad shout. As insights go, it was also wrong. Barring another 1st debate type screw up, Biden’s the nominee. Harold Wilson’s supposed quote about a week being a long time in politics has never been more true. One of the effects of the assassination attempt is to more or less quell all talk of Biden’s dropping out.
now Biden is being made to apologize for using the word "bulls eye" a while back when discussing the focus needed on Trump's policies? are you effing kidding me??!! why do Dems feel the need to apologize for things like this, while the Repubs repeatedly call for / hint at / dog-whistle violence to solve their grievances? does my head in.
Donald Trump’s choice for vice president described the UK as an “Islamist country” with nuclear weapons during a speech at a right-wing conference last week. Recounting a conversation he was having with a friend, the 39-year-old said he had been wondering which “truly Islamist country” would be the first to gain access to nuclear weapons. “I was talking about, you know, what is the first truly Islamist country that will get a nuclear weapon?” he said. “Maybe it is Iran, maybe Pakistan already kind of counts, and then we finally decided that it’s actually the UK – since Labour just took over.”
