Real vs United

Discussion in 'The Beautiful Game' started by Albion + England, Apr 15, 2003.

  1. Am i the only person to think that in last weeks game Real weren't as good as everyone thinks?
I might be outspoken here but Real showed a few flicks and fancy skills OUTSIDE the box that lead to what? They got nowhere with em. They scored a fluke for the first, the second was a good finish but a defensive mistake, the third was a half chance. What did they create?
United created more opportunities over the game, were better in the 2nd half. The Utd players were slated afterwards, even though Giggs had Hierro all over the place at times. Van Nistelrooy led the line well, people questioned Beckhams ability on one game, Ronaldo never looked a threat to Ferdinand or Brown except admittedly on the penalty incident.

People saw all Reals fancy footwork and automatically think they were showin Utd a masterclass, what a load of s***e.

Me, I just think Man is really bad in the defensive end and only shows some offensive sparkle.

Barcelona or Deportivo could have accomplished similar results.

Uhhh... we do have the best defence in the Premiership this season.

And uhhh... didn't we beat Deportivo this year in the Champions League (twice)?

That lead them to beat a great team like Manu 3-1 with 2 uncalled penalty kicks.

Am i the only person to think that in whenever an English team gets bitch-slapped by a big team from Europe, the first thing often out an English fan's mouth is a bunch of shite about, "fancy footwork," and "flair players." YAAAAAAAAAWN.

I might be outspoken here but Real Madrid-yes an unbalanced team, a team built on shady finances, blah, blah-still has great players, who at the drop of a hat, can provide the most sublime (a favorite term for you lot) audacious displays of football. And sorry, but only Van Nistelroy (perhaps Beckham too from a free kick position) can match that. And that's really all there is to it.

It just is mate, it just is ;)

    Deal.

You can't argue with the fact that Real are playing like no one else at the moment. I agree.

that being said I also think that if Madrid DO get past United then the road to the cup is wide open for them. They are right now facing the second best team in the tourny and are looking very likely to advance. It's a shame this couldn't have been the final on neutral ground. It could have been a thriller. Instead we're going to get Madrid beating the tar out of some in-experienced, completely out gunned team. :D

Although Man U thumped Newcastle United 6-2 (unbelievable) They are still not euro club champions material yet. Real are far too strong and so are the Italians. Arsenal are the only hope but can't convert home success to euro club success

It's funny to see G.Neville running out of breath trying to stay close to R.Carlos' runs.

Yes, I also think Figo's goal was a fluke. Figo was trying to cross. Only the stupid espn commentators would say something like "what a brilliant goal". What a bunch of bull.

As I saw it, United's problem in the first game against Real is that they were star-struck. They saw all those expensive superstars staring at them and began to shake in their boots. They gave Real way too much respect, allowing them free reign with the ball, and making mental mistakes in defense. They need to play like themselves: aggressive and physical. Have confidence that English toughness can overcome the finesse of a bunch of wavy-haired mediterranean guys who cry a lot.

How many brilliants goals of the football history has been fluke? A big part of them seems for us to be fluke (As the Ronaldinho one in World Cup, some of the Beckham famous ones, that Roberto Carlos where the ball in a magic way get in the net). Who knows? Only the player can say it. But fluke or not fluke is was a gorgeous goal.
Real Madrid defeated Manchester United, but was defeated by Real Sociedad (I think they were not so insterested to win because they are still at the top of La Liga), now it´s time to face Barcelona and let´s see who else from La Liga is able to defeat Los Merengues.

I'm trying to figure out if I watched the same game as some of you guys. ManU were humiliated..! the scoreline doesn't tell the full story. Real totally outclassed them and ManU showed total lack of class.

There's an old Manchester saying. "Never mind the ball, get on with the game" and the game here was how many people can you take down before you get a red.

For a team who played badly, United are still in with a great chance to get through to the semis. I wonder what will happen when they will actually play well next Wednesday....

As much as Real slapped Man. U. around on the offensive side of the ball (and that was a great deal), what I think isn't being said here is that Man. U. did put together some great scoring chances as well. Certainly not as many as Real, but definitely several of them. So, I still think Real was obviously the better team, but it wasn't quite the total mauling that everyone says.

  24. United created more chances than Real. People see a few fancy flicks here and there and think Real battered them. Come on, they might have had more of the play in the first half, fair enough, they didn't create much though, Utd were better than Real in the 2nd half so how did Real show them a masterclass?
And for the bloke who thinks English people moan about flicks, why would we when players like Zola, Henry, Bergkamp, Okocha etc play in the Premier League?
