Yeah I don't understand how people are arguing this isn't a foul due to the ball being away. There were multiple fouls this game alone outside of the box where a player got hit/stepped on after they'd passed the ball that were called (for both sides). A couple were given cards. I'm not saying that referees don't often have higher informal bars for fouls within the box, they clearly do, but when the defender stepped on Vini's foot and then had his momentum carry into his far leg, it was clearly a foul by the letter of the law. It's just sometimes ignored.
Very difficult game against a good opponent. Result could have been very different, but I'm glad the team found a way. We cannot underestimate the fact that we went out there with such an improvised midfield, in a difficult away game; it impacts the team across the whole pitch. In light thereof, I think the team did well. I'm a bit wary of overanalysing our game so far, because we have zero continuity due to those injuries, though I am perfectly aware that we need to find a significantly higher level very soon. Can't drop too much points in a phase where we're trying to find form. By the way, Mbappe was very good. You can see that he's starting to find his way. He's still not there, but he's our best forward so far, and you can clearly see how good he is and will be soon!
Ancelotti only made use of only three substitutions in a week when we had an upcoming midweek Champions League match. I understood that our bench players were limited and he might not trust the Castilla callups, but Militao was seen limping, and Vallejo could have came into the game.
Violent conduct is always outside The Laws, irrespective of "phase of play," so not really comparable.
