Thin midfield. We gotta try to kill this game as early as possible or it could get very complicated. The attack needs to show some progress today.

With CL coming up on Tuesday, if we can afford NOT to play without Militao, we should. Too early in the season to take any risks if he's not 100%.

    Arda time!

    3 points and gtfo please.

    I would play
    Courtois
    Carvajal Militao Rudiger Mendy
    Brahim Valverde Modric Rodrygo
    Vinicius Mbappe

Probably a lost cause to think 3 left wingers can make up a 3 man attack (who could know?). Vini improved his assist skills a lot last season, that's why I think it would be better to move him to the right instead of Mbappe. My only question is to play Brahim or Guler to the left.

No clue what to expect. We haven’t had a single good game. Only the second half against Atalanta but that was mainly Jude running the show.

With all the injuries I can’t see Carlo trying alternate formations either.

Glad to see Brahim and Arda starting together to help the midfield

@Saeta Rubia mentioned Carvajal in midfield, I actually thought of something similar but with Carvajal playing an inverted fullback role; tucking in into midfield in attack making it a double pivot with Mendy staying back making a back 3 essentially. This should work even better when Tchouameni/Camavinga are back and would allow Valverde and Bellingham to push up and give a little freedom/less defensive burden to our wider players.

The more I think about this the more I like it :inlove:. The roles are interchangeable and I feel you get the best out of everyone almost.

We'll most likely play the most vanilla bread and butter team you can think of, lets be serious.

Given what we have to work with, I like it. I will be interested to see if it actually looks like a 442 or it morphs more into a 433 given that both Brahim and Guler are happy to play as a right wing.

I'm also interested to see who holds plays furthest left of the midfielders given that they all have tended to be played right/center for us. Modric would probably make the most sense, but I'd worry a bit about his stamina and being left a bit alone with the tendencies of the others (though thr forwards will likely be closer). I wouldn't be shocked to see Fede deep left in the holding role, Modric to his right but deeper. Brahim attacking mid somewhat central edging right (in the Jude role) and Guler as as the left mid.

    We shall see!

Good lineup, should be an uncomplicated win considering La Real's form and awful start to the season..

I want to shed a bit of light on Ceballos, a player that was injured for the most part of last season is once again injured with more muscles problems I’m assuming. It’s worrying because he has to be counted on this season with Kroos gone.

Anyway, can’t wait for the game to start! I like the tactical change from Carlo with two 10’s to load the midfield up because Modric will need all the help he can get with closing down players.

It's an ankle injury, he posted a picture of it, swollen and bruised and all.

Would be nice to see the team shape like this.

I'd be surprised if Ancelloti deviates from the 433 though.

At least it’s not the same stuff from last season, but I’m still worried about his situation. When fit he isn’t amazing but he’s good enough to be effective against most La Liga clubs, but we need him to be way more available this season, just like Arda.

Excuse the format but I’m thinking the below:

    ……………..….TC………………..
    Dani……Militao…..Rudi….Mendy
    ……..Modric…Valverde………….
    ……………………....Brahim……..
    ……..…Guler……………………..
    …………..Mbappe….Vini………..

This made me look up Kroos’ injury history. Man it’s incredible how dependable he was in that regard as well

    Missed games:

1 in 2015-2016 due to influenza
7 in 2016-2017 due to hairline crack in his foot
7 in 2017-2018 bruised rib & inner ligament
11 in 2018-2019 multiple issues (stomach, adductor and knee)
    4 in 2019-2020 adductor injury
7 in 2020-2021 due to covid mostly and muscle injury
13 in 2021-2022 bone irritation and hamstring
    4 in 2022-2023 stomach flu/influenza

Talk about being resillient and always available. Another thing we’re surely going to miss.
