And Madrid are holding their goals against average pretty low. It's not a good sign. Winning La Liga this year would be a big accomplishment and IMO everybody should be happy if this team pulls it off.
Well that sucked, that no call on Pique probably cost 2 pts. Crazy no call given the early call on Busquets. Regardless, they were cutting through our midfield with ease. The draw was probably a good result and it's lucky it wasn't a defeat.
The Busquets penalty pissed me off and MAtS tipping the ball directly to their striker to score. Not that MAtS was bad or anything but that was just unlucky. I think against good teams we have to find ways to score 3-4 goals to have a decent chance of winning and that will be hard. Our defense just gets overrun so easily.
Ironically, Pique, much criticized for his extracurricular activities of late, was our best defender by far vs Sociedad. What’s worrying is that besides him allegedly not being fully dedicated to his sport he’s also on the wrong side of 30. Yet, he seems to be almost as important to our defense as Messi is to our offense. We need not only have a post-Messi plan but also a post-Pique plan as far as I’m concerned. Injury-ridden Umtiti and an erratic Lenglet don’t exactly inspire confidence. Todibo will probably need more time to develop as well. We may yet rue missing out on de Ligt who’s coming into his own after an unfortunate start at Juventus. While Demiral-De Ligt seem like the natural heir to Bonucci-Chiellini we are transitioning into worrying times for our defense and the team as a whole. We have an aging offense including Griezmann, an injury-prone project heir to Neymar and some talented but very inexperienced Masia products (Perez/Ansu). Our midfield is aging as well, especially since the re-introduction of Rakitic with only de Jong as some sort of beacon for the impending change that’s inevitably coming. Don’t know what’s going on with Melo, and a potential world-class talent in midfield that is in our very ranks, stuck playing for Barca B. I truly hope we go for Havertz. Let’s just hope that we can squeeze one more Liga at the very least this season and see what happens next summer.
never doubt Pique's ability. The only problem is his lack of focus on the game but currently it seems that he doesnt have that problem. But beside Pique,others defenders are quite poor. Lenglet,Alba,Semedo,Sergi...are not at Pique's level. Need a quality defender now. At least it will be good for domestic league.
Agreed, only question is, who? Realistically. Skriniar? Can’t think of many top CB’s who are a realistic target for us. Many play for our direct rivals either domestically or in CL.
