Going on the free is the way to go now. A lot of players are doing it plus it also makes the agents more money
Maybe he doesn’t want to play for West Ham? Maybe he wants to decide where he plays for what will probably be his last contract?
Well good on him, choosing to ride the pine and collect his wages for another season, on top of the year or so he’s already done ******** all for us. All so he can cherry pick a move to a less prestigious club than West Ham - cos no club as good as that is coming near a 30 year old Lingard who hasn’t played for most of a season, is fully out of the England reckoning after losing all of his momentum from that freakish good run, and on the wages he’ll inevitably expect. Even from the perspective of looking out for number one, it’s dumb as shit.
The club should have taken a hard ball approach, either you move or you arent seeing minutes, even in meaningless games. We try the cuddly approach oh he is in our plans and all.
The club's perspective I would assume is getting him off the books. The transfer fee is relevant to a point, but he is an academy player so I am not sure we would be too butt hurt about it. Ideally he should have been off the books this summer. Now you can only focus on letting him go in January for minimal fee (probably half of what was quoted). Now that we know his contact expires in summer 2022, we should have really lowered our price to 15-20 mil. If he had multi years left, I would agree that his fee should be larger.
i also think being an academy player and long time servant if he really wanted to go the club would have released him from his contract after all he had been through recently. somehow both him and the club have ended up with the worst outcome. the club is paying a player who will see even less minutes than before the loan with the new arrivals and he is not getting minutes to maintain form or his spot with the NT. luckily Southgate is full of shit and still picks players who don't play despite vowing to do the opposite but even that won't last indefinitely
Lingard wasnt going to the world cup anyway. Unless England have a bad injury problem. He has like 4 no.10's in his way. He couldn't make the Euros squad with the extra 3 spots. He gets to pick his own club and he gets to earn a decent salary (assuming because of free transfer).
I guarantee he doesn’t agree with you about his England prospects. He’s not making these decisions because he’s rational and cutting his ties with the NT. He thinks he can get into the England team by playing for us. That brief run for West Ham has got him making dumb decisions. And he doesn’t get to pick his own club come the end of the season, when we let him go. He will pick out of the clubs that will be willing to pick up a 30 year old on big wages, who hasn’t played for a season. None will be as good as West Ham. He will get a better signing on fee perhaps, just not a better career.
Im 200% sure he doesnt. But he missed the 26 man squad for the Euros and that was with 3 extra players. I'll bet $100 he wont make it. I don't get why everyone is disappointed with this. We dont want him. We were never going to make enough money of him. He will be a free agent and im sure West Ham will still gladly take him. They don't have attacking depth. Id wager Leicester would add him for free too. He wouldn't be a full time starter. But he'd probably still double or triple his play time. Why wouldn't Everton want him? They have nothing there at the moment, basically.
What is his weekly wage? https://www.spotrac.com/epl/west-ham-united-fc/payroll/ According to this thing Lingard is at 75K weekly and Yarmolenko highest paid Hammer at 115K. Lingard probably wanted a higher salary that essentially guarantees him playing time due to it. United said no. Lingard wanted Fred money lol.
I think what some folks have missed is that West Ham never put in a serious bid for Jesse. Had they done so, he'd likely have gone. The talk about Jesse wanting to stay and fight for a place was just that. More than likely Fletcher or Ole sat down with JL and found out what his plans were. He likely said he wanted to play regularly or be sold, preferably England, preferably West Ham. The problem is that WHU aren't stupid. They know JL is out of contract in a year AND that due to the covid economy in the sport, there are plenty of players who could improve their team who are younger and cheaper than JL. As for people who think a regular starting role with United is ludicrous for JL remember that he ended the season with goal contributions that would make our team bar Bruno blush. He also had a similar purple patch under Mourinho. Given the right circumstances, he's an excellent player and he has every right to do what he thinks is best for his career.
100% agree There is no market for players like JL in the last window because they want high wages (potentially his last contract for his peak years) AND Utd want a transfer fee for him. So he will move for free which suits West Ham and JL. The only other option would have been a one year free loan with obligation to buy, but why would JL or West Ham do that for a player with one year to go? In the end JL stays because no one is dumb enough to buy him. See also Xhaka who Roma tried to get for 10m (IMO Arsenal should have taken it anyway)
Exactly why we have to hope that the matter of United trying to sign Lingard to a new contract, is pretty much a closed matter, for all intents and purposes (as things stand at least). Would be idiotic to make the mistake we've seen them make so often in recent years, the same one that Arsenal just did with Xhaka (signed to a long term deal, with a raise to boot). More pressing issues on the table already in terms of contract renewals/extensions alone. Lingard will be free to start negotiating with teams as soon as January: best he can do between now and then is to make the most of the opportunities that will come his way, so he can keep a reasonably high profile for interested parties. Which there should be quite a few I imagine: decent teams as well, I'm sure.
18 years ago, Cristiano Ronaldo taught Jesse Lingard some skills when he was in the Man United academy.Today, they both scored and celebrated together at Old Trafford! 🤝 pic.twitter.com/pdTXeKyNax— ESPN FC (@ESPNFC) September 11, 2021
https://www.skysports.com/football/...ed-determined-to-keep-forward-at-old-trafford many people will be unhappy to hear this
neither of them play games even now. something is not aligned with whoever is doing these extensions and the manager of all the players extended or given new deals in recent years - Pereira, Jones, Lingard, Smalling, Mata, Bailly, Matić etc. none of them are remotely regular starters or get regular minutes and most get loaned but somehow we keep doing it. probably forgot one or two more. an extension from United has essentially become like the chairman's vote of confidence for a struggling manager
Moyes on Lingard: "Ole [Solskjaer] made it clear to me quite early in the transfer window that he wanted to keep him. I knew pretty early in the transfer window that he was staying at #mufc." #mulive [eurosport]— utdreport (@utdreport) September 17, 2021 Probably goes some way to explain why WH didn't push real hard with a strong bid for Lingard. Not to mention when you add those comments on top of Ole's recently and it will be really interesting to see how far/high United are ready to go, in terms of the wages they are ready to offer, to try and convince Jesse to stay.
Ole wants to keep all the players available so he has the best chance to succeed. He’s not making the difficult decisions.
