I don't think Fede has adjusted to his role further forward. He makes so many safe passes without mixing more adventurous ones in to keep the defense honest. It makes sense if you're the last many in front of the defense (or often covering for a defender whose further forward and so the last man) and you really don't want to give up the ball, but when you're closer to the opponents' box, it's too conservative.

It isn't the first time he's come off the bench and had a crazy impact. Vintage Vini.

Xabi Alonso: "Vini on the bench tonight? I don't have a set starting XI. The starting XI will depend on each rival, on each game and what it requires."

I say the best bet is to keep them both. Vini is the more dangerous and explosive player, Rodrygo the more level headed one. A little competition will do them both good imo

Yea yea sure. If Vinicius started we'd be hearing "Rodrygo would have a hattrick and two assists! Bench Vini!"

I have to disagree there.. Rodrygo and Franco were absolutely necessary in breaking through tight defenses early in the game. Rodrygo in specific was brilliant in dribbling in little space. I believe he would have done equally well when given space.

    Well planned from Alonso.

Watching ElPost on Dazn LaLiga and Vini needs to quit interacting with the fans (this was before the racial abuse), he just adds unnecessary fuel to fire..

I am really happy how this game ended. 2 goals for Mbappe. Vini back with a chip on his shoulders. Defense was rocky at certain points but definitely much improved from when Don Carlo was in charge. Great performance from Fede, Carva and Dean as well. Loved it! More of the same please!

Oh btw, Rodrygo is gone the second he gets a bid.

It's good to see the rotation starting early on, we have a long season and rotation will keep everyone rested/motivated.

Great link-up play with Carreras, some nice shots. He was good."

I like Carreras a lot ,he is so strong and tall and composed reminds me of peak Mendy when nobody can get past him .

Fede place in the starting 11 should not be guaranteed ,Arda,Camavinga,Jude,Franco there are plenty of players to play in midfield and they bring something different ,Fede hasnt been that good ,he needs to learn to play more with the ball and create not just run

He only just found out about Rodrygo's qualities or what. Link-up is Rodrygo's specialty and instead he didn't see a single minute for multiple games. His situation is a mystery to me

Garcia on ESPN says Vinicius arm gesture was not towards the bench but towards the referee who had said something to him earlier. Mbappe covered him mouth during the goal celebration.

Yeah he was being racially abused with "death to Vini" chants, water bottles were thrown at him while celebrating and the ref told him to clear the area.

Vini has never disrespected his coach in his career. Surprised people thought it was towards the bench. But then again Vini is always guilty until proven otherwise

I'm going to be on the side of..... breaking down teams who just sit back, as in the Osasuna game ( we saw Vin there too) and most of the first half of this game is more difficult than when you have a team of that level knowing they have to come out and try to play and to score to try to get something out of the game, by the time Vin got there there was much more space at the back, that's my logic re this game and the game before rather than the level above thing, Vin took his chances, it was good to see, we need him at his best, and i think Rodry took his too, considering the circumstances

    9-Toni Kroos
    8-Guler tonight
    7-Mbappe,Modric(x2),Kroos, Asensio
