    Real Oviedo 1-0 Condal

Real Oviedo: Aulestia, José Luis, Falo (Nico, min. 85), Meijide, Lasarte, Jon Carrera, Stefan (Bruno, min. 85), Curro, Villanueva, Cervero y Centrón (Jaime, min. 64).

    Goal - Cervero

Oviedo were lacklustre playing vastly inferior opposition they had all the possession but never had the drive or will to annihilate them the way they did a few short weeks ago against the pitiful Astur. A makeshift side with Falo dropping back into defence in the first half plodded their way through the game, happy to rest on a 1-0 win once the goal came, a cross from Villanueva to the ever reliable Die-gol! A plodding performance against a team that never really threatened. Plus point other than the result was the debut of youngster Nico a second half substitute.

next match away to Unión Club Ceares currently in 5th place on 22 points

Home form: 6 matches 4 wins (last 4 games) 1 draw 1 defeat Goals for 11 against 5.

History: only 7 seasons in Tercera their highest ever finish being 9th last season, so again another minnow but they are on the up.

Last match Ceares beat 2nd placed Cudillero away so they are not a team to be taken lightly. They have won 6 of their last 8 matches.

    --

Oviedo have slight injuries to Cervero and Centron who have missed training at times this week as have Carmona and Lucas Iglesias again but all 4 hope to be included in the match squad this Sunday. If without both Centron and Cervero that takes out players responsible for 16 of the 28 goals scored so far this season. Hopefully players such as Armando Quesdada and Bruno would then make their presence felt, so far they haven't shown enough of their obvious talent.

Suprises in the match squad, Iker Lasarte and Jaime the only two naturally left sided players in squad are dropped. All the players who missed training this week are in the squad, including Carmona who was tipped to be rested as certainly not 100% fit. Matias who's been playing for the B team for the last month has a suprise recall to the match squad. B team player Nacho Méndez who impressed while training with the first team squad all this week also misses out after being tipped to match match squad atleast.

Match Squad (18 players) v Ceares

    Goalkeepers: Aulestia & Iván.

Defenders: Dani García, Roberto Santos, Carmona, Lucas Iglesias & Diego Meijide.

Midfielders: Falo, Curro, Sergio Villanueva, Jon Carrera, Centrón & José Luis.

Forwards: Armando Quesada, Bruno, Matias, Stefan & Diego Cervero.

    Match 13: Sunday 18th November

    Ceares 0-1 Real Oviedo

Real Oviedo formation? started 3 at back then 4 then 3, 2 upfront then 3 then 4.

    GK Aulestia

    RB L.Iglesias
    CB Carmona (Jon Carrera 66m)**
    CB Meijide
    LB Dani García

    RM Sergio Villanueva
    CM Curro
    CM José Luis
    LM Centrón (Matías**60m)

    CF Diego Cervero
    CF Stefan (Quesada 86m)

Starting line-up: obviously Jaime and Lasarte miss out as does "pichichi" Armando Quesada, Falo dropped in favour of Sergio Villanueva with Jose Luis getting holding role in midfield.
A lot of question marks over team selection, shouldn't the partnership of Armando Quesada and Diego Cervero that terrorised this division last season at Lealtad be given a go at Oviedo, Quesada hasn't even started a game yet.

    Goal : Cervero 89m

Next Match: Real Oviedo – Candás Sunday 25th November

Carmona and Jon Carrera haven’t trained all week so look like missing match.

It’ll be interesting to see if Iker Lasarte (until last week played every match) and Jaime (likewise when fit always atleast on bench) will make the match squad this week. Presumably Lucas Iglesias will move into centre leaving the two full back positions up for grabs. (if he plays 4 at back) Dani Garcia had a bit of a nightmare at left back last week so I’d guess Lasarte would replace him with Jose Luis moving from central midfield to right back and Falo regaining his place in midfield (Falo- another shock omission from First team squad). Will Stefan regain his place in the team? Presumably it will be an attacking line-up will Carrasco continue picking the player (1 goal so far this season) ahead of players with a goalscoring pedigree such as Armando Quesada and Bruno. Who knows what line-up Lobo is going to choose?

Diego Cervero is the highest goalscorer (12 goals) in all the top divisions in Spain (Tercera upwards) He’s a goal clear from the other Tercera strikers Quino (Reocín) and Jurado (Calasparra) both scored 11.

    Candás CF

    13th Place 14 points from 13 matches.

Away form: 7 points from 6 matches.
    Lealtad (5th) 0-2 Lost
    Navarro (11th) 0-2 Lost
    Llanes (6th) 3-2 Won
    Ceares (7th) 1-4 Lost
    Hispano (19th) 1-1 Draw
    Tapia (17th) 3-0 Won

History: 19 seasons in Tercera highest finish two 3rd and a 4th place in the 1960s. Spent most of 90s in Tercera but first year back after 8 years in lower leagues.

On paper should be an easy win at home but depending on what suprises Carrasco comes up with this week anything could happen.

    Goal:
    61m Lucas Iglesias

    Highlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLzB2ztHRBw

More suprises with goalscoring midfielder Centron moved to the left back position in a defensive 3, with Deigo Meijide playing sweeper/pivot in front of the defence. Jaime recalled in midfielder in place of José Luís (moved to right back) after failing to make last matches' squad. Again no place for midfielder Falo who’s last appearance was at centre-back, or previous ever-present Iker Lasarte who atleast made the bench. It’s strange how players like Falo and Bruno who last year played for champions Caudal in this division and were that clubs best players are just bit part players this year like “Pichichi” Armando Quesada. Oviedo are hardly playing phenomenally well currently you'd expect the manager to give the experianced players more opportunities to impress.

The match was a terrible spectacle another horror show, with Candas more than a match for a disjointed Oviedo side. Oviedo were clueless against inferior opponents, had they had a decent striker, in the ilk of Cervero, Candas would easily gone in at half-time a goal or two up.

Second half Meijide dropped back deeper as Carrasco switched to a 4-2-3-1 formation with Dani Garcia at left back and Centron in the centre of midfield. First real attack of the game for Oviedo (61st minute) and Jaimes’ cross was put away by Lucas Iglesias. Still Oviedo were bad very bad and not a lot changed until Matias came on mid way through the half replacing the ineffective Stefan, Matias added an immediate attacking threat that had been almost completely lacking until then. Matias was recently dropped for a month or so to the Oviedo "B" side Vetusta, but showed yesterday that he has the heart and skill aswell as abundant pace to succeed at this level. In some quarters Stefan is becoming a target of criticism as he seems to be keeping better players out of the side while his performances seem to be getting worse and worse, still only one goal aswell.

Carrasco labelled it a poor match on a poor pitch, he thought the defence had good concentration levels especially goalkeeper Aulestia. Attacking wise the football was unintelligent, Carrasco stated that if by the end of the game your players have run further than the ball has travelled that signals you’ve had a bad game. Basically the Oviedo manager was not a happy man.

Another 3 points playing very poorly, against a better team the defence will be punished.

Oviedo 10 points clear of 5th place so they have cemented their play-off position (top 4), fingers crossed a top four finish is just a formality.

    Next Match: (away) Caudal Deportivo
    Last seasons Tercera champions.
Caudals’ top scorers last season Bruno (12) and Falo (8) both joined Oviedo this summer.

I was at the last match between the sides when Oviedo drew 1-1, with the home side getting the dodgiest penalty ever to equalise. The Caudal striker did the most theatrical dive in area and actually got a yellow card for "simulation". the referee had the whole Caudal side crowd around him pushing and jostling whereby he scuttled over to his linesman and after what seemed like 3 or 4 minutes the referee reversed his decision (an Oviedo free-kick) and awarded a penalty. This brought the whole Oviedo side crowding around the referee but this time the referee decided not to change his mind again sadly. Penalty scored and a 1-1 draw with Oviedo unable to put away their chances.
Caudals' second biggest attendence ever, around 6000 fans well over half being Oviedo.

Caudal come from the town of Mieres where my wifes’ family all originate.
My nephew plays in the youth Team and hopes to join “B” team next season. His cousin Borja graduated from “B” team to full side this summer so may play this Sunday.

    History:
7 seasons in Segunda Division (highest finish 1955-56 – 4th),
    9 seasons in Segunda Division B (highest finish 2000-01 – 9th),
    44 seasons in Tercera Division.

12 times Champions of Tercera Division,
5 times Runners-up of Tercera Division,
26 times made the Tercera Play-offs (top 4 finish),
    5 Promotions.

The team historically is either a very good Tercera side or a very poor Segunda B side.

Home Form: 7 matches 6 wins 1 draw. 19 of their 25 points come from their home results. 4th position almost totally down to excellent home form.
    Caudal 2-1 Lealtad
    Caudal 3-1 Navarro
    Caudal 1-1 Llanes
    Caudal 4-1 Union Ceares
    Caudal 5-0 Colloto
    Caudal 4-1 Hispano
    Caudal 2-1 Real Tapia

Could be the toughest game Oviedo have played yet, hopefully the shape of the side and the defence can be sorted before Sunday.

On plus side Caudal have only kept one clean sheet all season and that was against bottom side Colloto at home. They have failed to score 3 times – all on their travels.

So historically even though Real Oviedo have always been a considerably bigger club than Caudal their away record has always been quite poor, Caudal usually getting the better hand. 3 wins and 3 draws in last 6 away meetings.

Goalkeeper Oinatz Aulestia is currently heading the race to be the divisions "Zamora" the goalkeeper who conceeds the least goals per match. He's clear at the top at present in Oviedos' Tercera group.

After being criticised in his performance in the 1-3 defeat to Llanes (Oviedos' record defeat in Tercera history) he has gone 295 minutes without conceeding a goal, 3 clean sheets in a row plus 25 minutes versus Llanes. His recent performances have silenced any criticism now and he has been the person who can be credited largely for the run of shut-outs.
Hopefully away at Caudal this Sunday the run can continue.

Presently Oviedo have the top player in the running for both the "Pichchi" (top goalscorer) and "Zamora" titles.

Real Oviedo in the Tercera Division

    Facts and Figures

Stats so far this season show that Oviedo are doing better than their previous 2 campaigns in the Tercera division.

(Year)xxxxxxxx (Matches) xxxxxxx (Won - Lost - Drawn) xxxxx (Goals For) (Against) x (Points)

    2003-04 xxx 14 xxxx 8 xxx 6 xxx 0 xxx 19 xxx 3 xxx 30
    2004-05 xxx 14 xxx 10 xxx 3 xxx 1 xxx 21 xxx 5 xxx 33
    2007-08 xxx 14 xxx 11 xxx 1 xxx 2 xxx 30 xx 11 xxx 34

So Oviedo have more points, more wins, more goals but also more goals conceeded and more defeats in comparison with the same point in the season.
Both previous Seasons Real Oviedo finished as the Tercera Champions.

Season highlights so far the 7-0 win versus Oviedo Astur, Oviedos' highest win in Tercera division. (note: they've scored 7 or more 6 times in Primera, 3 times in the Cup and 7 times in Segunda.)
Lowlight the 1-3 defeat to Llanes, Oviedos’ only defeat in the Tercera by more than one goal.

    2003-04 xxx 38 xxx 27 xxx 9 xxx 2 xxx 70 xxx 17 xxx 90

    Tercera Champions

    Play-off Final lost (3-3) on away goals (a) 0-1 (h) 3-2 to Atletico Arteixo

    Goalscorers: Aldeondo 12, Diego Cervero 11, Dario Aliaga 9, Granada 8, Recaman 7, Benjamín 5, Luismi 5.

    2004-05 xxx 38 xxx 25 xxx 7 xxx 6 xxx 75 xxx 30 xxx 82

    Tercera Champions

    Play-Off Final won 7-1 (a) 5-1 (h) 2-0 versus Real Avila

Goalscorers: Dario 17, Cervero 17, Aldeondo 8, Juan González 8, Jon Carrera 5, Ruben 5.

So while supporters are unsure how good Carrasco is as a manager, so far his record is very good.

Notice Diego Cervero has already surpased his 2003-04 tally and is easily on course to beat the 17 goals in 2004-5, he's on course to hit the 30 mark this year if he avoids injury.

Real Oviedo won Trofeo Cabo Noval this Wednesday.

a regional cup for reserve sides, Oviedo beating Real Aviles 8-0.

Only first-teamers in action Matias and Armando Quesada (4 goals).

Yes Armando Quesada our oldest most experianced player is playing in a tournament basically comprising of youth team players. He was double the age of many he was playing with and against. What kind of man management is Carrasco playing? will Armandos' 4 goals give him any chance of making Sundays match squad, let alone bench or team? 69 goals in 3 seasons and he's in the cold while others in first team couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo!

    ---

Both Carmona and Jon Carrera returned to training this week so Carrasco will have a full squad to choose from for sundays match with Caudal. What sellection suprsies will we have this week?

    Match 15: Sunday 2nd December.

    Caudal 3-1 Real Oviedo

    Real Oviedo: (4-3-2-1)

    GK Aulestia
    RB José Luis
    CB Diego Meijide
    CB Lucas Iglesias
    LB Iker Lasarte
    CM Falo (Jon Carrera, min.83)
    CM Curro
    CM Jaime
RM Sergio Villanueva (Armando Quesada, min.83)
    LM Centrón (Stefan, min.75)
    CF Diego Cervero.

No big suprises, other than Bruno (ex-Caudal) not being named in match squad. Carmona dropped as many fans have hoped for for a while. Cervero started upfront on own with support on wings from Villanueva (ex-Caudal) and Centron. Falo (another ex-Caudal) formed a strong midfield along with Curro and Jaime. You would probably say that the team selected is Carrascos strongest. Armando Quesada (ex-Caudal too) again didn't start and had to be happy with 7 minutes as sub.

First 45 mins Oviedo had all the possession and played very well, with an early goal by Lasarte from a Curro corner settling nerves. From then on all Oviedo and they should have put atleast one of many opportunitys away, Cervero missed an absolute sitter mid way through half. Oviedo were punished seconds before half-time with Borja punishing a defensive lapse. 1-1 a travisty but that's what happens when you don't put away your chances.

Second half patchy to begin with but as soon as Caudal scored a second the game change, Oviedo forced on the attack with Meijide moving into midfield and with Stefan and Armando Quesada entering the attack. Curro had a good shot saved by their keeper, and then Stefan had the only real clear cut chance of half a one on one with their keeper but as is his way he fluffed the chance. Oviedo never threatened after that and were hit by a sucker punch in injury time to lose 1-3 again.

So Oviedo lose by their equal highest margin in Tercera history (1-3 like Llanes) again going ahead early on (like Llanes), losing a match to fluke goals and defensive ineptness (like Llanes). Why when you need a goal do you put on a forward with one goal to his name all season when you have the last three seasons top goalscorer sat next to him on bench?

Carrasco presumably to throw Caudal off the scent spent much of the weeks training experimenting with a 3 man defence and with 2 up front (3-5-2) but on match day he reverts to the tried and tested formula. Wouldn't it have been more benefitial to get the defence sorted out, get a settled back 4 playing together and iron out the mistakes. Instead there seems to be little progression from the last 1-3 defeat, it has been an accident waiting to happen. Presumably when the transfer window re-opens in January a few will be out and a decent central defender at very least will come in.

    Goals:
    0-1, 4m. Lasarte.
    1-1, 45m. Borja Carril.
    2-1, 72m. Parra.
    3-1, 91m. Miguel.

Another defeat and Oviedo could be third this time next week.
