a bunch of the kids I coach went to that game and were talking about how many of the first team RSL guys were on the field. They thought it was so cool. One of the kids was celebrating his birthday and Monarchs let them go on the field and high five the players and such. They had a great time. When I asked them how they played they all got this look of disappointment in their eyes and said "they tied 0-0 and Bobby Wood didn't really do anything". I'll have to ask them about the 13 year old kid. Especially given he is just 2 years older than most of them.
Does anyone know anything about Monarchs filing a police report to Austin PD against an Austin Bold player? I’ve been told that the Monarchs have filed a police report related to an incident between an Austin Bold player and 15 year old Monarchs’ keeper Fernando Delgado. My understanding is that the incident took place around the 86th minute of play, but I have yet to confirm that.— Lucas Muller (@lucaswmuller) October 17, 2021
I saw the schedule release, but I never saw this. Now I'm really confused about both rosters at this moment. https://www.rsl.com/news/real-monarchs-announce-2022-preseason-roster
I'm hopeful this is a sign that the movement between the Monarchs and RSL isn't going to feature as much red tape as it used to. Loefflesend being listed on both rosters is really funny - hopefully for him he gets two salaries. Gomez, as well. I would hope the league could figure out a way that any player on the Monarchs roster is eligible to play for RSL. Some limitations* should be put on that, for sure, but moving more towards a Euro model would be welcomed. *E.G. restricting the salary that a player can have on the Monarchs, the number of games they can play for RSL before they have to be an RSL player, etc.
Lots of things are out about this now. Competition guidelines: https://www.mlsnextpro.com/about/competition-guidelines We're in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference with Quakes 2, Timbers 2, Whitecaps 2, and Tacoma Defiance (Sounders). 24 game season split evenly home and away. 20 man gameday rosters/five subs 35 man rosters, of which 24 are professional and 11 amateur. No age restrictions EXCEPT a cap on five academy amateur players on the field during a game. 7 international slots. Roster compliance was last week, the 18th.
I've obviously not kept up on this enough: why aren't all of the MLS USL teams joining this year? Los Dos joins in 2023?
I've been trying to follow (not surprised we don't know who's on the roster and how MLS first team players fit) and I haven't seen much in regards to your specific question. I'm guessing each team has several reasons (marketing/licensing agreements, uncertainty with the new league/rules, previous commitments, etc.). I wonder how big this league becomes? Will teams move away from USL (2nd and 3rd div)? Why would teams want to stay with USL? Is there a preference from a player perspective? I was really hoping for more info with the league starting this weekend. There's not even a story on the Monarchs' website. There's one picture of the new jersey.
Even the Monarchs only had 16 players available tonight. Besler looks to have started at CB. They lost 3-1 in PKs after tying the game with a stoppage time PK.
https://www.rsl.com/monarchs/competitions/mls-next-pro/2022/matches/tacvsslc-05-15-2022/lineups Monarchs continue to struggle. Only 14 players available last night. Davis and Garcia got the start, but maybe out of position? Orozco had to start in the midfield (DM?). Torres, the young attacking player on loan, didn't get the start and only got 5 minutes. They have 2 points on the year, last in the league. I really don't know what to make of what they're trying to do this year.
https://www.rsl.com/news/u17-mls-next-flex-recap-may-15 I saw that this is going on, but I'm not local, so it's harder to follow. Also, we don't know how limited those guys are with how many Monarchs games they can play. Sure would be nice if the organization would tell us what's going on.
didn't know about this and yeah, look at Wellings and Kei playing in this but not the Monarchs. That's.... really weird.
The Monarchs lost tonight to Rapids 2, 3-1. Rapids 2 goalscorers were USMNT Striker Gyasi Zardes, USMNT winger Jonathan Lewis, and Rapids leading scorer Diego Rubio. Axel Kei scored for the Monarchs in the loss.
Axel Kei with his second goal of the year for the Monarchs. Chris Garcia with the assist. Friendly reminder that Kei is 14 years old. Brilliant finish from Axel Kei! 👊@RealMonarchs 1-0 pic.twitter.com/GFFO1wBsNC— MLS NEXT Pro (@MLSNEXTPRO) July 2, 2022

I saw that the Monarchs, with Holt, Luna and Rubio starting, lost to the Quakes 2, 3-1. I know it's supposed to be developmental, but should we expect more goals with some first team attacking talent?
