Monarchs started with a 3-2 road win at Portland 2. Aiden Hezarkhani (17 y.o.) with a brace; here's one:
https://www.rsl.com/monarchs/news/real-monarchs-unveil-its-2025-roster This was posted Friday afternoon. There are 2 Academy players on loan, a 3rd used to be an Academy player. 14 players are on loan from RSL. Bonilla has a contract with the Monarchs after being drafted by RSL last year. 5 other players are RSL draft picks from the last 2 years. 4 others are new to the Monarchs. Interesting way to build a roster. I know they can't all be kids, but I don't know if the level of play is high enough in this league to develop MLS players.
Debbie downer.... Seriously though, that sucks. I don't understand why people don't want to invest in kids education. We all benefit from it.
Not to derail this, but the current admin and the project 2025 plan very much want to “fund” education…. Privately. In very specific charter/private type schools. I think it’s moronic. I will admit I’m the son of a public educator and married into a family of them, so I certainly have some bias. for a very interesting listen checkout Extremely American Season 2 (season 1 has some relevant items too). I've seen this Real Monarchs game before, in the form of the parent club playing shite CCL/CCC competition and losing.
It is really odd to me that - missing their two offensive threats in Gozo and Hezarkhani - Axel Kei still can't make the bench (he did get sub minutes over the weekend).
Actually only one of the five players listed as strikers on the official roster is in the squad tonight, the guy starting - Carter from the Academy. Forwards (5): Prince Abban, Grayson Carter (Academy), Zavier Gozo (RSL), Axel Kei (RSL), Lineker Rodrigues
Their defender on the far side held Riquelme onside. Lazy; he could see the whole play and could easily have moved a step upfield. 1-1.
That's an embarrassing and disastrous pair of mistakes by Henry. Red card and a great place for a shot for them.
I know El Farolito isn’t talentless, but Henry has no business playing like that against them. He’s 20. Am I too critical for expecting more?
Wonder how Monarchs attendance will be when they host a few matches in St. George because tonight’s crowd looked pretty dismal. Personally I think the club would do better moving the entire operation south. southern Utah is booming and would be a much better location for the monarch’s.
He had some big minutes in the preseason and early matches but may have found his new home with the second team.
It's interesting the amount of hype he was getting. I didn't get it then and still don't. That might be the new norm, not bringing in proven players.
The answer is in your question. "We all benefit from it." That is sacrilege to those are working to dismantle our democracy.
