i just cant help noticing the similarity today...
Man U play Arsenal......Real play Valencia
Arsenal and Valencia are right up there in their respective league tables...though have had disappointment in their last champions league outings.
Man U and Real are both in alien positions in their league tables.
Both have the best forward options in the world...yet there is a shortage of goals this season. The defense is also not upto the mark.
These 2 clubs have possibly the best players around : Raul, Ronaldo, Carlos, Owen, Zizou, Figo, Beckham, Samuel, Helguera, Salgado, Morientes, Giggs, v.Nistelrooy, C.Ronaldo, Rooney, Heinze, Ferdinand, Smith...the list goes on...
What is going wrong ?? What can possible be better on paper, one wonders ?
Does this mean money cant buy success - tell that to chelsea..
Anyways, Lets hope both these super clubs get back to winning ways and where they belong - at the top of the table.

Do you really think that Manchester United has very good players now a days?

I don't think so. Only Van Nistelrooy and maybe Rooney in a short future, not yet, but for the rest...nothing impressive, quite average, and certainly, same as RM, getting old and psychologically tired.

Yeah, Ronaldo is ancient. Ferdinand has just become a grandfather and Alan Smith has been collecting his pension for years. That Wes Brown is practically dead as well.

I think you might have confused the "nothing impressive" category, with the "getting old" one.

If they bought Ronaldino, they would have been much a better team. When I used "they".... I meanted both Real Madrid and MU.

Unlike Madrid, Manchester are more than out of form, they're practically finished.

Man Utd do have really good players. Van Nistelrooy will always score goals, Rooney is getting better & better which is frightning, Ferdinand is the best defender in England & Ronaldo is learning all the time, he can beat players & now has an end product to his game now.

[result]Real 1 - Valencia 0[/result].....lets see ManU now...I hope they end arsenal's run...arsenal are all about henry...if he is out injured, arsenal wont be able to beat a single team...but till he is there, he can single handedly turn matches. lets hope rooney does some magic.

the best player on that ManU team is Cristiano Ronaldo, aside from Ruud obviously. that kid is a stud and only 18. i wish we would have gotten our hands on him, or better yet we should....as a replacement for Figo at the end of the year. NICEEEEEEEE!!

He plays on the other side than Figo plays at Madrid though, but even if this wasn't the case, I'd rather get Reyes than Ronaldo if we were to spend big for that position of the field....and only Reyes seeing as Vicente is a definite "thanx, but no thanx" to come over to Madrid, because apparently he likes Valencia too much.

[result]Well, both Madrid and ManU have taken down last season's league winners in the same weekend, so maybe this thread is on to something.[/result]

The times I've seen Manchester I always see him passing from the left...I think
Although now that I think about it ¿doesn't Giggs play on the left?

Meh, the right wing is already being kept warm for Joaquin anyway ;)

Ferdinand and Heinze would walk into your team. Woodgate is Englands 5th choice centre half. Rio is pretty much the best defender in the Premiership. Hope you watched the Arsenal game today :) Your fullbacks can't actually defend either.
Van Nistelrooy, Ronaldo, Scholes, Rooney, Giggs. Even Keane in his old age would walk over your tinfoil midfield since he can still do it against Gerrard, Vieira etc and you couldn't even persuade someone like Vieira to join for big bux.

Wow, where to begin. Ferdinand might start over Helguera, would not start over an in-form Samuel. Heinze would not start over RCarlos. I don't think Salgado would agree with your assesment that he can't defend; he's one of the most solid marking backs in the world, and can attack as well. Ruud, Scholes, Giggs, and Keane had a chance 2 years ago against Real Madrid. Walk over us? Kind of. But back in reality, Real dominated the first leg by a significant margin, and Ronaldo's hat trick in the second leg led to a standing ovation by the Old Trafford crowd. I would be impressed if Giggs could shut down the brilliant Zidane, Keane could shut down a much younger and more energetic Beckham, Ronaldo shut down a just-as-tricky, but stronger and more experienced Figo, etc. Rooney has yet to do much against top-class competition, and Ronaldo can be stopped as well (like ACole did today), although I think he's a brilliant young player. As for the Vieira comment, Arsenal was offering him bigger "bux;" he was mulling over the decision for so long because he didn't know if he wanted to stay with the team he'd blossomed into a start with and try to lead them to CL glory (Arsenal) or join a team that has a much better chance of winning it, for less pay (Real). Close, but no cigar. My hope is that we play Arsenal, Milan, ManU, and Barca at some points in this year's CL, so that we can end all of the talk and see who wins in real life.

nice Real rocks..and i think even raul is getting back his touch..and owen is settling in. only have to wait for samuel and woodgate to tighten things at the back.
    Unstoppable - of course..

I would take Rio Ferdinand at his best over Samuel at his best any day. Roberto Carlos over Heinze, but i have been impressed with Heinze. Salgado is one of the most under-rated players in football. My joint team would go something like this:

    --------------Casillas

    Salgado Ferdinand Woodgate Carlos

    C.Ronaldo Zidane Beckham Giggs

    -----------Ronaldo Rooney

The strikers were actually hard to choose

Jonathan Woodgate is probably 3rd choice centre back for England when he is fit.

Kaberon you have to be joking when you say Rooney has yet to do much against top-class competition. Did you see him in Euro 2004. He was great against France. Even though Thuram was not at his best he still one of the best defenders in the world, Rooney destroyed him that game & when he got the penalty he showed his pace.

Ferdinand would start over Woodagte and I would take Figo over CR if we was talking about playing today as opposed to long term

I did not say Rooney had not ever done anything impressive. I did say that he has yet to do much against top-class competition, and one match against a very mediocre France side is not the same as consistently standing out against world-class competition, like Ruud, Raul, Ronaldo, etc., have done. He is an impressive young player who seems to be able to find the net, but, like many young English players throughout recent years, is overrated by the media (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/euro_2004/3828041.stm -- England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson says Wayne Rooney is the greatest teenage talent to emerge since Pele.) like Owen was, like Fowler was, etc. However, he is not a better striker than Owen, Ronaldo, Raul, or Morientes, not to mention at least 10 other strikers around the world who I'd rather have. A combined team? The only player I'd see starting immediately is Ferdinand, while Ronaldo, Heinze, and maybe Ruud could play some minutes. Nobody else really would help us -- Keane is too old, Giggs out of form, Rooney not better than any of our 4, etc.

Oh yes, 'that' run. The one that the ball took a lucky deflection and it turned out that Rooney was faster than Thuram? Yeh, top class stuff. [/sarcasm]

TeddyBear- you being Scottish you haven't seen a class Scottish player in years so i will let you off (only joking mate, i like Scotland)

Kaberon- I see your point about young English players being overhyped but Rooney is special but 10 other strikers better than him, i dont think so
