would be silly of me to speak of players i know nothing of, so I put salgado there..... only a select few I know of from the 80's and down....

Ramos can't of course not be an all time greatest, why I put him on the bench knowingly that he one day will be one of the great defenders....

Seriously, you can't mention only 11 players as the all time greatest in Real Madrid, this stretches far beyond 11 players, that's why Real Madrid is the greatest club in world. Each decade in the history of Real Madrid has its own legends. That's the beauty of Real Madrid....

Just in case you haven't noticed, I keep putting a smiley after I post...I'm not getting worked up about it, I've not asked to close the thread, and I've enjoyed seeing the various suggestions....so don't be so sensitive about it....but I still maintain it is impossible. :D:D:D

(three smilies just to be sure this time)

Seriously how do you pick a forward line with Raul, Puskas, Di Stefano, Hugol, el Buitre, Santillana as candidates? You can't even start dropping players deeper because where does that leave Gento, Zizou , Juanito, Michel, Laudrup etc?

I've lain in bed thinking about it (yes I am a sad git) and.......

    .....it cannot be done.

But feel free to keep trying.

The only logical way to do pick a best 11 (Real Madrids that is, the rest don't really matter) is to go by decades I guess. Some people here have done it that way, to me that is the only logical way other than that its a tough one.

Maybe you should've tried a poll by playing positions, it could've been a little easier.

Di Stefano had an interview with a german footie magazine recently, he was asked if he plays along with those talks about Real Madrid's best 11 and he answered "Not at all. There are too many factors like time, team mates etc.If you give me a month i might come up with 30 players."

I can't really formulate a team with players I haven't seen play before... and All I have seen are clips of greats like Di Stefano, Gento, Puskas, and Pirri. I'm in my 20s so my All time XI is really confined to two decades:

    ------------------Casillas----------------
    Salgado-----Hierro---Sanchis-----Roberto Carlos

    ---------------Redondo--------------------

    Figo----------------------------------Zidane
    --------------Laudrup----------------------

    ---------Raul-------------Hugol-------------

    12th Man: El Buitre

4x4s brought it up a while ago. Marca is doing the same thing as us, their Glorias Blancas. They have made a collection of 13 officially licensed DVD's with a collection of players in the same position. So far 2 DVD's are out and I have managed to get my hands on the second. Readers of Marca vote between the selected players for the positions.

The first is the Ala Internal with Kopa, Amancio, Juanito, Míchel and Beckham. The readers voted:
    1. Juanito, 46.989
    2. Míchel, 36.051
    3. Beckham, 25.137
    4. Amancio, 24.304
    5. Kopa, 9.340
And have thus selected Juanito as the all time best right midfielder in the history of Real Madrid.

The second is the Dioses Del Gol with Di Stéfano, Santillana, Hugo Sánchez, Ronaldo and Ruud van Nistelrooy. Di Stéfano won this hands down with 80% of the votes and have thus been selected as the all time best left attacker.

I'd like to put up my best 11 too! However, I wont put names of players that I haven't seen or heard before even though they are legendary. I don't know if you guys would consider my 11 valid though because of that.

    --------------Casillas----------------

    Ramos - M.Sanchis - Hierro - R. Carlos

    --------------Redondo---------------

    ---Figo---------------------Zidane---

    -------------Di Stefano--------------

    ----------Raul--------Hugo Sanchez--

I don't know how Becks beat Amancio. From what I've seen and heard, Amancio would be good enough to make an all time XI.

Beckham is underrated, and I was one of his biggest supporters here but I don't think he can touch Amancio's 9 La Liga, 3 CDR and 1 CL.

Just to say the voting on Marca's Glorias Blancas is now completed. the final 11 chosen is as follows...
    Casillas
    Ramos...Sanchis...Hierro...Carlos
    Juanito...Redondo...Seedorf...Zidane
    Raul...Di Stefano

Obviously the omission of Hugol makes the whole exercise null and void.;)

I figured using a ' ' would make me sound more like a fanboy ;-)

That said, Ronaldo was and is a much better player than say, Di Stefano or Puskas.

If this is to Real Madrid only and not all of football,Il phenomenon was great for us but not good enough.

    ------------------Cassillas(or Zamora)--------------
    ----RB-------Santamaria---Hierro----R.Carlos---------
    Ramos(lack of info about others.)
    ------------------Redondo----------------

    -----Juanito-----Zidane--------Gento--------

    -----------Don Alfredo------Puskas(Raul)

Sad to leave out Hugo,Kopa........ but to me these are the best(feel free to fill in the RB position by the time that Ramos earns it)

damn, you beat it to me... I was hoping to be the first to bring this up :D

anyways, I think this is a very good best XI team for Real Madrid, considering aloooooot of ppl voted for it.
There Are some issues of course... I'd put Hugo Sanchez instead of Raul, and it's a doubt between Camacho and RC...
Zidane and Redondo are auto's, as is Casillas to me, Zamora MIGHT've been better, but Casillas is one of the best/if not the best goalkeepers in the world.

And Ramos could be in here in a few years, if he really becomes Paolo Maldini, but for Real (not for Milan). He's already the best RB in the world right now and on that age...

But like said earlier, it's very hard b/c the '50s team on itself is a best XI... I don't think ANY other team will EVER be able to do what they did...

This is how my all time best 11 looks like:

    --- Hugo Sánchez ----- Di Stefano ----
    -------------------
    Puskas -------------------
    Gento -- Zidane ---- Redondo -- Figo
    -----------------------------------------------
    ---- Carlos ---- Sanchis ---- Hierro
    ----
    ------------------- Zamora ------------------

If i may say so: The best all time starting 11 in Real Madrid history. I seriously doubt anyone can set up a better looking 11

    B team

    ----------- Raul------------------ El Buitre ---------
    ------------------------- Juanito
    ---------------------
    Santillana -- Laudrup --- Makelele -- Míchel
    -----------------------------------------------------------
    ---- Camacho ---- ??????? ---- Salgado
    ----
    ---------------------- Casillas --------------------

Someone help me out here. I can not think of a defender.
