Obviously Real Madrid was better than the Galaxy but it wasn't night and day. The Galaxy did themselves proud and actually played well enough to have a great match. If Real Madrid was that much better they would have scored a 5-0 game. I thought Real Madrid made the Galaxy players step up there game. Tyrone Marshall owned Real Madrid, Nagamura held his own, Cobi Jones look descent for once, Kirovski looked like he belonged except for his pace. Not a bad showing at all. I have been to Highbury to watch Arsenal play, San Siro to watch the Milan derby and the only difference is the intensity and the quality of the of the passing. By the way Michael Owen reminds me of a Josh Wolff that can finish.
I thought the Galaxy played well. They showed they have heart which has been lacking since the early games of the season. I am hoping that it carries with them into the next game with DCU. I know my attitude would be... we just gave a good showing against one of the best teams in the world. DCU should be nothing. Anyone catch the foxsoccer.com interview with the RM players. Beckham was very complmentary of LA and the Galaxy. Figo was as well. Owens was very smug and seemed to be knocking LA just a bit. Just came off as a bit on an a$$hole.
I agree.. he was being honest as he sees it. But rather then flaunting "I play on the best team in the world" thing... he could have been respectfully degrading us. I guess Beckham was only so flatering because he plans on calling LA home soon. They talk about that move so much now, I am starting to think it could happen sometime in the future.
We would never see the night and day difference until something was on the line. Then it would become abundantly clear. Watch the tape of the match and see how they toyed with us for the first 20 minutes. After that they didn't need to. Just get a good preseason warmup against a team in the height of the season. I am a Galaxy fan, but we don't belong on the same pitch, except when they (Real) are gracious enough to allow it.
Hail Hail Have a chance to catch the game last night and LA I thought played pretty well but RM looked a bit slow. But none the less a good exciting game. Yeah Owens is pretty much a pompous little ass but better to be real to your face then talk bs to it. Beck's should be in the MLS within the next 2-4 yrs. His contract expires in two seasons with the Galiticgos, I bileave he's 28 or 29 at the moment but I would need to look that up. Figo was absoutly amazing as well as was Saldado looks to be pushing out Raul up top. To bad the Galaxy will forget who they palyed this week and lay an egg against DCU.
They only toyed with us because we allowed them to because we where in awe. But once we figured we could hang we applied some pressure.
They dominated the midfield made in some cases 20 passes at a time. They pulled all their players in the 70th monute with a 2-0 lead that they were not going to lose. Remember in 1994 when brazil played the US? Brazil won 1-0 was the game that close? Ask Sampson if the game was a close game let's see what he says. problem is you don't know the game.
Hey Ray you big phagggot I am just trying to be optimistic. The bottom line it is better but not night and day. It is like comparing a Ferrari 360 to a Corvette not a Ferrari and a Hyundai Tiburon.
On the video game Fifa 2005, players are rated from 1-100, determining their overall effectiveness in the game. MLS Players are rated in the mid to low 70s on average, with the occassional low 80 (like donovan, guevara, pope and ruiz) Real Madrid's players are rated almost exclusively in the low 90s, statistically the best team in the game next to maybe AC Milan my point is that when the game first came out people freaked out saying the MLS players were highly overrated in Fifa 2005, but i think the game we saw yesterday easily warranted rating like that, some of our players really held their own, sure you can bitch about circumstance and stuff, but bitching is for bitches and it was more or less a fair contest, sure real madrid was offseason, but they were all fit and rested while our players had been playing half a season already, and considering real madrids players are world class athletes, there isnt a significant advantage either way, and the home crowd advantage is relative, i heard real madrid getting as many cheers as the galaxy, and we were without donovan, that should level out any other disadvantages the galacticos had against the galaxy
Terribly off-topic, but I now understand the San Jose Earthquakes and their fans just that much better.
It was a fun game to watch. RM is every bit what they should be and showed it, LA played much better than I figured they would. It was a friendly and that's how it should be viewed. Both teams can leave the game happy with what they saw and hopefully no injuries.
I'm sorry ... just can't resist. AmericanEnglish, are you really a Liverpool & Arsenal fan??? I don't think I've ever seen one. Damn, that's like being a Yankee and Red Sox fan.
I think that LA got all they could have hoped for in this situation. They kept it respectable, and some of the players really shined for LA - Hartman, Tyrone, Nagamura, and even Dunivant to some extent. Who knows what would have happened with Donovan there. In the end, we have nothing to be ashamed of.
2-0 might have been the score but watching the game, I felt that Real was taking it pretty easy. Obviously there were moments when they turned up the heat but Real really controlled the game. They just knew how to put the pressure on and then relax. You can tell at moments when Real was not defending as hard in the midfield. Just simply defending the goal area. Zidane was simply superb and the way he held on to the ball or release the ball was magic. I think the Galaxy was rushing the play too much or taking too much time. It's hard to describe but Real knew how to draw a player out of position and in the meantime another player will jump into an open place. If Real wanted to score a few more goals, they probably could have. However, it was an exhibition match and there was no need to show off. I mean why show off and embarrass a team when most people probably knew that Real is a stronger team. Nothing was on the line and for Real it was just another money making exhibition match. I don't think the Galaxy should feel embarrassed in anyway. For the Galaxy, they played against the best and probably learned something that they can improve on. Soccer is still growing here and I hope it's the beginning of greater things to come for the MLS.
I can too be both an arsenal and liverpool fan, ive been following them both closely for 3 years, cant imagine choosing only one, its like choosing one kid over the other, they may be really different, but they got their qualities and i love em both, I only lived in england for a couple years so its not like i was born a fan of either
Don't get me wrong ... I'm really not being critical. I just couldn't image having 2 different EPL favorites. The rivalries are just so entrenched. What do you do the 2 games they play each year? And more importantly, do you actually frequent their threads here?? In any case good luck and Cheers ...
Nah, being a 'Pool and Arsenal fan is more like being an Orioles and Yankees fan. It's a rivalry, but not the biggest. Still rare though, to be fans of both teams.
It's really funny you would choose the Orioles because that was my first impulse ... but I really wanted to get my point across and chose how I did.
When i actually went to school in london, i couldnt admit to even not hating liverpool, l because the fans are so passionate that my arsenal friends would have stab me . The mentalitity is that if you dont hate all the opposition, your not a true fan, haha, (i hate man u and chelsea) yeah their huge rivals, and its painful to watch them score on eachother, but the joy i get from followin them both is worth it, an undefeated season and a champions league, gratifying! ive been posting on both their boards like the cheeky yank i am
its kinda like if i saw america and sweden play eachother in the world cup, (im dual citizenship) i woulda supported both of them all the way.. but yeah.. when they play eachother its tense
How can you neglect to mention several great saves made by Hartman? I agree that Marshall was great, but Ugo played very well, as did Albright. We were stuck in our own end most of the game, we just couldn't get a lot of attacks going without Landon and against that particular team, but the defenders held their own and kept the score very respectable. (These were just my live impressions; I'll watch it on TiVo this week.)
