Always great to start off the match thread with some excessive negativity.

 

Positively, we should evaluate how we've played in every match so far. Our performances have been scrappy, and we have yet to have a comfortable match where we dominated completely.

Modric ahead of Arda again. As great as he has been for us, he is 39 years old, not playing his best football, and is on his last season. Why are we playing him ahead of the future of this team?

 

Good line up, i can't imagine we could be worse than last time out so upward and forward, is Eder injured or are they being cautious because of his former injury, hoping for a positive performance and result

 

We are a bit too far into Carlos econd tenure to ask these questions unless completly retorical.

 

I think Modric ahead of Guler might be the right choice. Villareal will come out like a team that smells blood in the water, the pressure is up high for Madrid to get a win here and he's coming off a game where he blew a clear cut scoring chance. Maybe not the best game to give your teenager a chance to build up his confidence.

But it's going to become a problem sooner than later, there's no way Modric can keep playing every game.

 

Relevo posted something about Carlo having doubts on Arda's physicality and defensive prowess. However, Modric hasn't been much better in that dept tbh..

 

Guler isn't a midfielder. Still has a lot to learn for that position

 

Wan't he playing the false 9 for Turkey, might be an idea seeing as how it's barely October and we already having sightings of Rudiger player as a CF.

 

Guler has been playing as CAM or RW for Turkey most of the time.

 

Modric played better than Guler in recent games. In fact, Guler had a golden chance to score from magical Modric pass vs Lille, but he headed straight to GK when it would have been a goal on either side. Fair call to start Modric.

 

Right now our issue isn't one player playing over another. Like Modric instead of Guler. All the players have been just plain bad vs Lille, and they've been sleepwalking through 1st halves all season (pretty much). It's a mentality problem and it's affecting the whole team. We need to show character and attack from the first minute, score at least a goal in the first 20 minutes. A "remontada" should not be our default strategy but a showcase of team spirit when things don't go to plan. We only wake up a bit when teams score on us, no excuse for that, that's negative mindset. We're the champion and we need to show why tonight.

He's absolutely not a midfielder. Yet. However I think that's where he'll end up if he improves his physicality and defensive awareness.
