We're also getting an unprecedented amount of penalty kick calls, over twice as many as Barca with Mbappe taking practically all of them.

We've already surpassed out all time highest in club history in the League, and are 1 short of the all time League record.

That provides more context to the amount of goals.

I didn't get to watch this one but I'm happy for the team.

Definitely true and worth accounting for, the only thing I'll say is that part of the reason why Mbappé has and continues to take them - as compared to last year's "you take it" "no, you take it" nonsense - is that he's been clinical at the spot. 12/13 on his penalties. Vini's success rate historically has been much poorer, well below average from the spot. I know you're speaking to the volume of chances and I don't disagree, I'm just saying Mbappé keeps getting the chance to convert them because he's been excellent at doing so.

It's a different subject entirely but I'd be more favorable to a hockey-style penalty taking system, where the fouled player is the one who takes the PK. If it's a handball, then last person to have made a play on the ball leading to the handball. I think that would be a lot more fun, but whatever.

I think it's important to look at the overall picture on how we play and not fixate on who scores the most. Alot of times this season people have been saying "we'd be midtable without Mbappe's goals" etc. No this is not true, if Mbappe didnt score them somebody else will. I'd rather we look at how we do as a collective.

Given the amount of individual quality we have I dont think we'll ever have trouble scoring whether with or without Mbappe, whether that is by just one player or multiple players it doesn't make a difference. What use is it to have a guy score 10 only for us to lose by 11. I like how the mentality was under Zidane, it was difficult to score against us because he didn't care for pichichis or whatnot. Main objective was trophies which is why he was so successful.

Recently under Arbeloa we have seen much better collective pressing which means we are managing to win the ball higher up the pitch. That was absent previously. Whether this leads to trophies remains to be seen.

The truth is this team is good enough to win enough games even without a coach, hence why I was uncomfortable with Xabi's fanfare and self marketing.

Of course in practice the players can't win it on their own, but when you have a roster this overwhelmingly superior, you have to take a back step and not put yourself in the spotlight unless you're up for the negative side of it.

This is not true. We’ve been awarded 13 penalties and Barca was awarded 19 in 2015/2016

Those two penalties yesterday were soft. They were reminiscent of Luis Suarez who was great at embellishing and anticipating contact. Vinny was a timber log going down before contact was ever made.

Yes, we know you’ll always find a way to discredit Vini

you can look through my history and I’ve been vocal about not liking soft penalties for and against us.

What irritates me is players who would rather sell a penalty than stay on their feet and make a play to actually score.

What I see in your history is regardless how he performs, you’ll find absolutely anything to hate on him. Even kissing the badge after scoring golazos. You hardly talk about any other player. Its all you do

It was always gonna come down to this it was either Vini (and Fed) or nobody that was going to carry the team to titles and who else to score the goal that put the team in front, got the three points and left the team first in the standing.

    VINI VIDI VICI!!!

It's you that throws your toys around like a baby every time Arbeloa gives a press conference. You just find it frustrating that the narrative that "we would be in a relegation battle if it wasn't for Mbappe's goals" is starting to lose some steam.

Anyway time for Mbappe to do some off-the-ball fukcing work and become more of a team player. He has the worst pressing and off-the-ball workrate stats in all of Europe. It's astonishing.

Take away penalties and Mbappe and Gonzalo have the same minutes per goal ratio. 129 minutes per goal. A little lad from la cantera.

He also put the most dramatic spin possible on that now deleted tweet about Fede, who gave a very cheerful and optimistic press conference after the game about the state of the team and locker room and said he was just ticked that he hadn't done better with his last opportunity (same one he banged his head against the post about). I think someone else might have mentioned it post match as well. People love drama.

It's been clear all along what was needed and while Gonzalo Garcia is miles off from being the best of the best he's so much better at so many things that it's honestly quiet embarrsing the club got swindled into the Mbappe "free transfer" given the answer to the teams problems was already in the academy.

I thought Fed (like all of us) was just super PO'ed that that Vini got robbed of his hattrick with what would have been a header goal, the nail in the coffin for his haters.

Its possible that added to it. I just went back to when he got subbed off and he's smiling as he comes off and talks to Arbeloa and others. Clearly not throwing a fit given due to the sub. Looks very positive.

He's just some lad from la cantera. Joselu was just some lad that played at Stoke City. Love both these players but this idea that the team won't score goals without Mbappe is ludicrous. We scored more goals before Mbappe arrived and had no striker starting. Do people remember Jude Bellingham? A Midfielder. Arsenal don't even have a player that has scored more than 8 goals in the PL.

Mbappe needs to adjust his game, no player is bigger than the team.

I’ve pretty much stopped posting about Vinny, because it’s a pointless discussion. There are some like myself who want him gone, and there are others who don’t. Nothing will change either opinion.

if you look at my criticism, it’s also at Jude, Fede for their poor play and leadership (lack thereof). But yes, keep playing the victim card for Vinny.

Yeah, then why lose control and kick a drink cooler? All that does is create more drama for the cameras? Kind of like Carvajal choosing to dress down pintus in the open? The leadership of the players is completely shit.

Because i have a higher standard for this club. Winning is only part of why it matters. He's embarrassing, but it takes a bit of maturity to see that.

The team can still win multiple titles and the club continue to be a joke in many ways. Personally i've long stopped defending this club, especially when even people i know in Madrid are now basically selling their season tickets full time as a business. I would most likely do the same.
