Historic defeat. The Real hadn't lost in la liga since November 2000. And i don't remember that none team had made 5 goals in only 45 minutes in the Bernabeu.

    Yes, the result was 1-5.

The game began very good, with the team touching great the ball and Ronaldo making the first goal. After that the Mallorca began to play better. The first half finished. The teams wasn't playing very well but nobody wait what would happen in the second half.

Well, In the first minutes Salgado lost a easy ball in defense and the Mallorca made the first goal. That changed the game. The Mallorca waited the Real Madrid and made very fast counter-attackings that finished in goals. The Real Madrid attacked every time with more players and the Mallorca made every time more goals.

    Conclusion

Something is happening in the last games. The Real Madrid had recieved 14 goals in the last 4 games. When in the first 29 la liga games we had only recieved 28 goals (1 goal by game).

Well, the answer may be easy. Hierro returned too the team the last four of five games. He is too slow and the fast fowards take easily his back. Today he didn't see pass the very fast Mallorca forwards (Etoo and Gaza). And how he knows his speed problems he defends very near of Casillas letting a big space between the defenders and the midlefielders, and in this space the rivals run without opposition.

Hierro is a historic player, but Pavon must play or we will have very serious problems in the next games.

But beeing the Hierro problem the biggest, i think that also the team had lost defensive intensity in the last games. We must recover that intensity. Raul can be the key about that, he transmitted that instensity to his teammates.

Well, i hope that at least this game made the players be with the five senses for the Juventus game. The Juventus made a counter-attacking play just like the Mallorca today.

    The real defeate

Mallorca came to attack, and to block Real Madrid, strong tackles on Zidane and Figo ¡OUch! specially Figo I tough he would get injuried. Look that Bernabeu was refusing Hierro.
They are getting the way to block Madrid, and Mallorca has that great striker Eto´o, a player formed by Real Madrid (These are the most dangerous, remember Luis Enrique was the one score then a goal in the derby).
Tough game for Madrid, and losing in such a way in their home and in front of a team as Mallorca. Those spanish team are the ones who knows better how to defeate los Galacticos ¿Aren´t they?

Hey guys let's keep this civil. I come here to express my opinions about Real Madrid and read the opinions of others. We don't need insults here.

Mallorca seems to have Madrid's number. They knocked Madrid out of the Copa del Rey this year and were the last La Liga club to win at the Bernabeu. 5 goals in one half! I too don't ever recall Madrid conceeding that many goals in one half. Madrid Forever is absolutely right since Hierro has returned to the team, Madrid is allowing a lot of goals. The only game in which he has played well was the first game vs Manchester United. It is certainly time for Pavon to start instead of him. The defense was functioning very well when Pavon was playing during Hierro's absence.

galacticos? I prefer a down to earth football, the one mallorca played.
I said it before and I'll repeat it, this team was assembled to sell shirts. real cortes ingles.
do we have to talk about hierro? how about roberto carlos? his defending and his passing are horrendous and he's so cocky, he thinks everything he touches will be "fenomenal" but I think the one to really blame is del bosque. why not rest the prima donas since they are only thinking about tuesday game? why not stand up to hierro and bench him? pavon was playing great, why always hurt the young players? I remember one time ivan campos telling del bosque; you always blame the young ones.
why relagate portillo to third forward knowing that morientes will leave the team at the end of the season. how are these players supposed to get any experience if they never get to play. eto'o today showed them how mistaken they are, but he couldn't sell any shirts. the kids in africa are too poor to pay $80 for a replica. I,m afraid portillo may follow suit.
I hope that perez and valdano in their vip seats in their fine suits got the message. what happened today is not an accident, I could see it coming and it will happen again.
we don't want a show, we want a real team.
    que verguenza!

I must remind you that the Real Madrid is the first in la liga and that the team is in the Champion league semifinals. I think that the Juventus is with the Real Madrid the only team that can win its league and the CL this year.

You cannot be the first in la liga without play like a team or be in the CL semifinals whithout play like a team. One example is what happen yerterday the team didn't played well and lost by 4 goals!!!.

You must be objetive, this team has won more than any other team in the world in the last five years.

Anyway, yesterday we played a horrible game and the players and Del Bosque must take note about it.
Like Excape Goat said May be a good wakeup call....

One point to debate, must Flavio return to the starting team?. I like Guti very much but maybe we are too offensive with him and lost defensive power, like happened yesterday.

Ah, "Galacticos" is used by the press/media. The players and Del Bosque hate that name.

Good points all. I watched yesterday's game and Madrid played a very good first half and really should have been up by at least several goals. But let's give credit to Mallorca. They have a good team and they really took it to Madrid in the second half. Whatever Gregorio Manzano told them at halftime was brilliant!

With players like Eto'o, Pandiani, Ibagaza and Riera, Mallorca can cause problems for any defense. Mallorca, Real Sociedad and Barcelona attack Madrid's defense and try to expose their defensive deficiencies. it's a good strategy but likely isn't one which Juventus will try and adopt on Tuesday!

Yet I too am troubled by Madrid's defensive weaknesses as of late. It's no secret that this problem has developed once Hierro returned to the lineup in place of Pavon. The question is will Del Bosque have the willpower to bench the capitan and play Pavon? Unfortunately I don't think so but it is noteworthy that the crowd was whistling Hierro towards the end of the game so they too understand the problem and know the solution.

I like what McManaman and Guti bring to Madrid's passing game but I think MadridForever is correct in asserting that the team misses some defensive help in midfield when they play in place of Flavio Conceicao (or even Cambaisso for that matter). I think we'll see Flavio return against Juventus.

Didn't see this match. What was Real's line up? When I saw the score in the Post yesterday I was thinking Real stuck in their B team to ret everyone for Tuesday.

Also, how soon will Raul be back? Will be be ready for the second leg in Turin?

I saw Racing score four goals vs Real back in April 2000. This was their first Liga match after they knocked out Man U from Champions League. Five goals????
