If & when nuff_said comes along, I will merge the threads. What an interesting game to kick off the season. I have no idea what the line-up will be with all the injuries.

:) Though I would hate it - I bet Reyes to score one against us !!
And I think this will be a 1-1 draw with RVN scoring ours.

Casillas might not make it due to an injury during the Spain training after a collision with Cesc.

I have a feeling Raul will score, Sneijder will send in a missile to the back of the net and a Sergio Ramos header.

    3-1

Atleti have proved to be a tough nut to crack at the Bernabeu in recent years. I'd much rather be playing this game at the Vicente Calderon but it didn't pan out as such so life goes on...

Aguirre's teams in particular are always difficult to break down and are very effective on the counter. They have reinforced heavily after the departure of Torres and, imo, they look a much healthier squad. Every year we talk about this could finally be the one where Atleti break into the top 4 or even challenge for the title but they always flatter to deceive. I can't help but feel we may get off to a poor start in this game as the tripe in Marca and AS printed after the super cup defeat does nothing but add more pressure to perform. Schuster already has the additional burden of playing beautiful season but at this stage of the season and given our opponents I would settle for a 1-0 win. I believe that at this stage it is much more important to start the season with a string of postive results thantrying[/I to play good football and not picking up encouraging results. Great football comes with patience, chemisty and most importantly winning. Winning gives you the confidence as a team that a) you can defeat any one and b) you can do so in style. We should concentrate on doing the basics first and then the juego bonito will follow.

I wouldn't predict that we are only capable of scraping a result as Atleti too are a newly assembled side. Both sides have not got into the swing of things and understandly so - so fears over what Sevilla did to us are not troubling me sa they were a side who have been in the making since the days of Joaquin Caparros.

Atletico are a lot stronger than last year, but...

I'm going to go for a 3-2 win for RM.

Athletico are always stronger every year over the previous year but they never realise any success :p but maybe - just maybe they might do something this year with Torres gone. Thye are like the Newcastle United of Spain.

ATM the moment i would play this team.

    -----------------Dudek-----------------------
    --Salgado----Metzelder---Cannavaro---Torres--
    -------------------Diarra----------------------
    ---Robinho-------------------------Drenthe----
    ----------------Snjider------------------------
    ------------RVN-------------Soldado----------

I think Soldado needs to be given the chance even thought i think Shuster has lost faith in him.

This team is ok and the Ful backs worry me a lot. plus i think Marcelo should get a chance at LB he looked really good against Cadiz.

Lets just Hope Casillas and Ramos are fit for Saturday

Forlan's the big one to fear. Let's hope Saviola gets some minutes.

Still too early to make a fair assessment...I know it's only 4 days away, BUT we don't know on a number of players' fitness levels from both teams. If we're tip-top with our top squad, I'm going to go with a 2-0 scoreline in favor of the good guys:D Raul with a typical header in the first half, and Ruud from the spot.

Given the pressure of this match (first La Liga match, home crowd, derby), and that the team badly needs to WIN for the confidence boost - (when was the last time since we won a match??!), it's better to use experienced players than trying something new.

    ----------------Dudek----------------
    ---Ramos---Metzelder---Cannavaro---Marcelo-----
    --------------Diarra---Gago--------------
    --Robinho---------Guti----- ---------Drenthe
    ----------------RvN-----------

Casillas, Pepe and Torres not available due to injury. Ramos should be fine by Saturday. This is already the most "experienced" squad I can cook up with lol.

But in reality, Gago would be dropped as it looks too much like Capello's formation and accordingly Real Madrid fans don't like two DMs. Raul will be in it too.

    2-1 Hala Madrid!

    -----------Dudek----------
    ------Metz----Canna-----
    Ramos------------Torres
    ---------------------------
    ---------Diarra----------
    Sneijder--Guti--Drenthe
    -------------------------
    ----Robinho--RVN------

In my opinion the starting lineup will look something like this.

    -----------Dudek----------
    ------Metz----Canna-----
    Ramos------------Drenthe
    ---------------------------
    ----------Diarra----------
    Robinho--Guti--Sneijder
    -------------------------
    -------Raul--RVN------

The LFP has this game listed for Saturday, August 25. In case anybody is wondering!

Also, we will be receiving the La Liga trophy prior to the game.

Reyes will be looking at it from the visitors bench - how bizarre.
