Saw this posted on the Fire website. I think that'll be real cool and then they will make a visit to Mayor Daley's office. Here's the link. http://chicago.fire.mlsnet.com/MLS/...ntent_id=36494&vkey=pr_chf&fext=.jsp&team=chf
I wonder how that will actually work.. Obviously the entire team can't throw out the first pitch.. Maybe they will throw 22 baseballs to homeplate at one time. . Maybe Beckham will get the honor..
It would definately make SC highlights if they set the ball on the rubber and Beckham ripped a left-footed inswinger across home plate. That would be very cool. Painful, but cool
Way to handle others opinions with a respectful reply. good job ryma. I wonder how much they get paid to throw the pitch...
I also cannot stand this minor sport (recently voted out of Olimpics, thank you). But I have a suggestion. Instead of thowing the ball, why not Backham kicks the ball??
It's going to make SportsCenter, and it's going to be to try and show how soccer players are like girls who can't throw a ball.
But what if, a soccer player knows how to throw a ball? You know there are throw-ins in the game. I bet it will be a two handed throw.
it's ok if the Galacticos can't throw a baseball, most of the cubs can't catch one. That's why they've been so bad for so long.
the stiff armed cricket heave would be even funnier than a two handed soccer throw, because it would be mistaken as an attempt to try and throw like it's a baseball.
That's a good point Dabes, I didn't think of that. However in my opinion, all these people that throw out the first pitch, footballer or not, seem to throw like girls. Even ex-baseball players. The only person I can remember throwing a good pitch is President Bush at the World Series. Either way, this is awesome for soccer in the US, more exposure. Just hope someday it can be an MLS player instead of players from a world away.
Heh, that is true. If you watched the Home Run Derby at this years all-star game, Miguel Tejada (current player and current all-star) threw out the first pitch. It didn't even make it to home plate. The ball ran out of steam 3/4 of the way there and rolled in. He ended up doing it a second time to get it right. Maybe it's just the pressure of the moment.
FYI, it's just Guti, Raul, and Roberto Carlos at the game. Everyone else decided to hang back because of the tight time frame between the start of the game and the press conference at City Hall. Also throwing out pitches today are Michael Clarke Duncan and Greg Lewis of the Philadelphia Eagles. And Mark Cuban is singing the 7th inning stretch.
