It seems that Perez buys a new player every summer. What do you guys things... speculate on who they might go after. They will need to replace Zidane, Figo, and Roberto Carlos in the near future as well. Who could replace these guys?

    summer 2003 purchase= jaoquin

Valdano has more sense than THAT, I should hope. :D

In all seriousness, though, I have a sneaking suspicion that either Valdano or Perez views Joaquin as an eventual replacement for Figo.

I don't know if they need another centre back now that Hierro is signing for another year or two, so they might not go after Chivu this season.

It wouldn't be such a bad idea to go looking for a replacement for Figo already, especially if that replacement is Joaquin.

Then again they could also fill both spots with homegrown players.

DaMarcus Beasley....not really, but wanted throw that out.

How about Mark van Bommel from PSV?

    Phillipe Mexes from Auxerre?

My choice,if I had one would be Beckham. Some may think he is a Prima Donna because of all the ink he get's,as a matter of fact,I used to think the same thing myself, but this man is a playa', flat out. When he is on there aren't much who are better.I would love to see him one day in a Real' uni'.Hope it happens,Go for it Perez.

Does LvG have a crush on DmB?

DmB could be the ultimate replacement for Roberto Carlos.

I'll let you know when my alarm clock wakes me up.

Chivu and Joaquin would fix the problems in back and on the right. Adios Figo.

Is Geremi on loan to M'Boro or was he sold there? He's been playing very well.

What about Lucio or Walter Samuel?

Joaquin would be a safe bet.

I could see Figo being sold to Italy if they sign Beckham, which I think is going to happen now.

What players would you like that the Real Madrid sing for the next year?

Our weakest position is the central Defense. In my opinion we must sing for that position:

-Chivu (Ajax) or Metzelder (Borussia Dortmund). Two young and very good defenders. They would fight with Pavon and Helguera for one position in the team.

Other "weak" position this year has been the Flavio/cambiasso position. I think that we must sing:

    - Baraja. Valencia Brain (with Aimar) and the lung of his team.

    - Xavi Alonso. He is the Real Sociedad brain. He is very young and he is playing great. He played yerterday his first game with the Spain NT.

Or put Guti in that position.

    I like your players, MF.
We need two central defenders and two midfielders.

Madrid definitely needs help in central defense. I'd like to see one of: Chivu, Metzelder, Samuel, Mexes or Marquez play for Madrid next season. I also agree that a new defensive midfielder needs to be signed to play alongside Makelele. I'd keep Cambiasso as an alternative there but sell Flavio Conceicao. I don't see Valencia giving up Baraja or Real Sociedad doing the same with Xabi Alonso though.

I can see Madrid selling some players this summer though to raise money for some purcheases and to create room on the roster. Flavio Conceicao, Geremi, Savio and possibly McManaman could all be sold (Geremi and Savio are out on loan now).

Marquez would be a perfect fit for the central defender position, plus taking him would prevent him from going to Barca or Deportivo or another big spanish club.

I'm agree. I forgot him. He is as good as Chivu or Medzelder.

    Two midfielders? Really? Two?

And stay away from Chivu - he's really good and I don't want to see him play on your team! I want him on Man Utd ;)

If we're talking young central defenders, here's a thought. If Bayer Leverkusen get relegated, Lucio might be able to be bought fairly cheap.

For those who read Spanish here's a transcript from an online chat with ESPN's analyst Victor Manuel Velasquez:

    http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/deportes/chatDeportes?event_id=3473#bottom

About midway down, in response to a question from a Valencia fan in Peru he responds that he has heard from good sources that it is almost a certainty that in the summer Morientes and 12 million euros will be sent to Valencia in exchange for Ruben Baraja!

If true I like that move a lot. It's obvious El Moro won't play much in Madrid anymore but as the recent international v Ecuador showed, Morientes is still a good goalscorer (something Valencia desperately needs). If Madrid can get Baraja in this deal that would be sensational as he could be the missing piece to make Madrid's midfield incredible. Now if Madrid can only acquire a substitute for Hierro!

Joaquin will not be sold by Lopera unless Perez forks out millions for the buyout clause, and even if he is willing to fork out the millions, Lopera would be nuts to get rid of Joaquin for the next 3-4 years at the earliest.

Saludos y viva er beti manque lopera!
