Seeing as you got Vogel, that title won't be his for long.

I think the Garcia deal is almost done. Both sides have agreed and it might just be made official in a couple of days. This is a good sign for madrid.Buying a player who adds more depth to the squad for just €4m(which is very less for madrid's standard). They should keep looking for these kind of players.Very useful.
All in all i think a sensible transfer move.

Yes, looks like both deals are official. The announcement is on the RM homepage.

I think Diogo was a free agent, so we got him for free.. not sure though

Does one of them or both have an EU-passport? If not, these signings seem pretty unrational to me, especially if we are to sign robinho...

García is a good signing, a seasoned defending mid for little money. I'm not sold on Diogo yet, but he's young and for free, so well done.

His pass is not owned by a club, but by an Uruguayan agent named Paco Casal, who has probably received a small transfer bonus (small if it had been a club, but hefty for any one person) and probably kept a percentage of Diogo's transfer rights. Casal is a bit of a shady character, but a really good negotiator - the deal that made Recoba the best paid player in the world over Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Figo in their prime is football agent legend.

How useful is Diogo? What positions can he be made to play? And how old is he?

He can play anywhere on D and MF in an emergency, but he's more comfortable at right back, so he is officially Salgado's back up after years of not having one. I'd say he'll be pretty useful to give Salgado rests (he's 30, after all) and to occasionally cover for Beckham or RC. He's 20, I think, maybe 21, but certainly no older than that.

thats really nice.A young back up for Salgado (what a nightmare last season was when he got injured). Finally things r moving in the right direction for Madrid. So two players for very little money.Gr8.

One sensible signing so far (Diogo), and one that may or may not be good. If Real blow a wad of cash on Gerrard, Garcia will have been a waste of money (IMO the worst of three players competing for one spot).

Diogo looks promising though. A good potential replacement either for an aging Salgado or an ineffective Beckham.

I really don't think that Garcia and Gerrard compete for the same spot. In Liverpool, Gerrard is at its best when playing more forward, with Xabi Alonso and Hamann behind him. Even if he plays a bit more defensively, he still has at least one of these players behind him. Garcia plays in front of the D line, and would fulfill more defensive functions, which Gerrard is better off without. Garcia will fight for a spot with Gravesen and conceivably Guti, never with Beckham, Zidane or Gerrard.

I completely agree with Laudrup on this one. If Gerrard comes he will be more of a replacement for Zidane, the maestro needs some rest for the really hard games. I have seen Diogo play and i can say that he's a pretty good player very good on one on one plays and he is good going forword too.

I think that Real have made two really good adquisitions.

And if we get Sergio Ramos, Robinho and Gerrard we can really go for all three competitions.

Hmm. Always seemed to me that Gerrard was more of a d-mid, and when England have played him in a diamond setup it's been on the left side. That and he's been both AM and DM for Liverpool, but I'd agree that the best results have come when he's got less defensive duties.

And I hope Guti won't be relegated to fighting for a DM spot...

Man, he's good there. Remeber those games whereour MF and F were Guti, Figo, Zidane, Owen, Ronaldo and Raul? Guti had a good run in that position this year - and he won't be relegated to fighting for that spot, he'll fight for several spot and I think it'd be good for the team if he played there every once in a while, specially at home.

I wish I could be in the room when Oscar Minambres walks into training, after coming back from being loaned out last season... looks at Diogo... looks at Luxa, Perez and Sacchi ... looks back at Diogo ... "Errr, guys, what the f*** is going on?" :p

It's good to see we're adding depth to the squad anyway, and that really has been a big weakness of ours for some time.

Maybe if Miñambres was any good this sort of thing wouldn't happen to him. I think Diogo outclasses Miñambres in every single category except bad hair.

Whether he outclasses Mejia remains to be seen.
