Did anyone checkout the match vs. Cadiz??? It was a pretty entaining affair. I still think REAL BETIS should have won the match. They outplayed Cadiz on both ends of the pitch. W/ a lil' help from the ref, Cadiz got a result.

That's cool. Be happy, at least it's something. But the truth is the Copa del Rey hasn't been taken seriously for a long time. The changes this year has changed that. But last year it was plastic.

Enjoy your "achievement". But make sure you let Lopera know, he needs to keep it from getting too much direct sunlight. It will fade and get brittle.

I don't know where you have been, but I do remember Real Madrid & Barca taken it seriously. I think only sevilla scum don't take it seriously. I bet if scumbag sevilla won it, you would be jumpin' up for joy. You always try to diminish Betis accomplishments. However, sevilla does crap. They don't play in Champion's League. They don't win Domestic Championships. No, they just sell their playas to Arsenal or to the highest bidder & let them achieve glory elsewhere. Until sevilla wins SOMETHING, then I might take those scumbag seriously. Until that time, they are just soccer whores that sellout for the almighty dolla. I can get that from the fuckin mls if I want footieball like that. I can't wait until sevilla changes their name to Red Bull Sevilla. Hell, they already have that color scheme.

    I've been caught. I'm so embarassed.:D

    Now that was clever. Impressive.

But no, in the last 10 years neither Real Madrid or Barcelona took this cup seriously. Barcelona refused to play a game and was disqualified one year. The team they sent to the Cup this year was about the same strength as what they send to the Catalan Cup. When Real Madrid played in the final against Zaragoza, they didn't even start Casillas. Until this year they played their bench team through the semi-finals. This year, however, Real Madrid did take is serious. I hope it stays that way. I would like to see the Cup gain in prestige.

Now, back to some more relevant news, Olivera is being loaned out with the intent to make it back to Betis in August.

Canhas has announced that he will be leaving Betis after 17 years with the club. Although he has no offers he still thinks that he will be able to land on some first division team. He is 34 years old and is a native of Rota Spain. He is one of the last true Beticos who bleed green and white. I wish him well and would have liked to see him retire and work for the club instead of leaving for another team.

News to VerdiBlanco Fans in the US, GolTV will televise the match between Betis vs. Athletic Bilbao on Sat. Check your local listing for the match. However, I don't believe it's a live feed.

Where are my Beticos fans??? [R]

I saw the disappointing match of Betis vs. A. Bilbao the other day. I thought it wasn't a great result, but I did want to talk it about here. I waited for two days, but now I think we need to discuss this. I don't know if the coach made some bad choices or if Bilbao was playin' a bit harder. Bilbao need the result more than Betis, but man talkin' about playin' it close. 3 matches left & two are on the road. Betis is 5 points ahead of Alaves. Is that enough to stay up???

Robodog-after Bilbao scored I believe that both teams mutually agreed that a 1-1 tie was good for both teams.

    Oliveira is an ingrate

Oliveira wants to remain at São Paulo longer than his original August 10th return date. He went as far as to say "that to play for São Paulo is a dream". WTF[IMG] This guy is a total "Me" person. He does not want to run for the VerdiBlancos. I say it's time to stop trying to get him to play w/ Betis. Betis doesn't need fools like this at all.

I think your Betis is probably safe this year, there's too many teams that have to win to get by them. So it's something you might watch but not worry about.

On the other hand, could this be history repeating? A few years back Betis had a great year, going to the King's Cup final, finishing high in the league, and earning a spot in the UEFA Cup. The next year was horrible, getting knocked out of the UEFA Cup early and barely missing relagation. So Lopera did what he does best...nothing. The following year, you get relagated.

Sound familiar? Things that make you go hmmmm...

    Re: Oliveira is an ingrate

Robodog I don't know if you have been a Betico for a long time, I have for 33+ years and have seen a dramatic shift of attitudes of players in those years. The old school would have died to defend the Betis colors now it's the "show me the money" school that runs the lot and Oliveira is just one of those guys. Except for Dani, Canhas, Melli and maybe the ball boys the rest of the guys are there for the paycheck and could care less if they wear Betis jerseys, pink jerseys or God forbid Sevilla jerseys. It's the money.

Beside having a great guy like Lopera as your president doesn't make things much more palatable in making a decision of staying at the club earning less than you could elsewhere. The same happens here in the US, look at baseball there are no more Cal Ripkens, Robin Younts, Kirby Pucketts, etc, where ever the money is greener they go. Don't forget that before Sosa was a cubbie he wore a White Sox jersey and now he's with the Orioles. Go figure.

    viva er beti manque lopera!

I still am not saying anything this year after the treatment I got last year here from some cateto idiots for simply expressing my worries.

But y'all know what has happend this year with Betis. Numbers don't lie.

You can call me an idiot, it's just a word to me. Last year you thought Los VerdiBlancos were going down to La Segunda. However, they finished 4th & won the Copa del Rey. We just let you know that your thoughts were rubbish. If you take offense to that, then don't make any stupid comments here.

Just for the record, Sosa isn't a Oriole anymore, I believe he's retired. IIRC Robdog has been a Betico since the signing of Denilson; not long enough to know what he's really in for.;)

edit: I almost forgot, Robinho says you're welcome:)

Actually it was FINIDI GEORGE that carried me to the Green & White. I like footy ball from the Americas more, but the Spanish liga has grown on me. Now I can watch it more, I do. That's it.

This will teach those Beticos to celebrate a victory. They should know better. If they would have thrown pigs heads and full whiskey bottles at the Mallorca players, or at least beat up the Mallorca fans, they could have gotten by with buying Villar dinner. When will they ever learn.

thank God and not Don Manuel that this season from hell is finally over:

Now it's time to start cleaning house starting off with Don Manuel!! :D

    Atlético Madrid 1-1 Real Betis
    PA

MADRID, May 13 (Primera Liga) - Atletico Madrid produced another disappointing home display to finish the season with a lacklustre draw against Real Betis at the Vicente Calderon.

A first-half headed goal from Mateja Kezman was cancelled out in the second half by substitute Arzu with his first touch of the ball.

Atletico finish another season without qualifying for Europe while Betis, who played in the Champions League earlier in the season, managed to narrowly avoid relegation.

The game started quietly with neither team able to assert any real control.

Atletico winger Martin Petrov had a couple of long range attempts but the Bulgarian's efforts were comfortably dealt with by the Betis goalkeeper Toni Doblas.

After 17 minutes Luciano Galletti could have scored from a well worked cross but saw his header sail over the bar but just five minutes later the home team opened the scoring.

A Petrov free-kick from the right thundered against the bar and with Doblas beaten Kezman was left with a simple header from just inside the six-yard box to open the scoring.

Atletico continued to create chances with both Gabi and Kezman again seeing their efforts go over the bar and it seemed only a matter of time before the home team extended their lead.

But in the last five minutes before the interval, the visitors stepped up a gear with both Dani and Alberto Rivera creating opportunities in front of Leo Franco's goal.

The best first half chance for Betis came just before the break when a Joaquin volley from the edge of the penalty area was parried by Franco and as Dani looked to slot away the loose ball from inside the six yard box the Atletico keeper managed to get a foot to the ball and clear the danger.

Betis continued where they had left off in the second half, showing more urgency and commitment with free-kick specialist Marcos Assuncao seeing a set piece effort go just wide and Betis captain Joaquin attempting a long range shot.

In the 54th minute an injured Doblas was replaced by Pedro Contreras in the Betis goal but he was virtually untroubled for the remainder of the game.

Betis continued to have more possession with Atletico's only reply being Petrov's sorties down the left which ended, as on so many occasions this season, in disappointment.

In the 75th minute Betis brought on Arzu to replace Dani and with his first touch of the ball the forward equalised with a firm strike from inside the area after a mix-up in the Atletico defence.

The final 15 minutes were uneventful with Atletico unable to create any clear chances and Betis failing to take advantage of the spaces the home team were leaving at the back.

Coming up to the 10th anniversary of their historic league and cup double, the Madrid side appear to be as far away as ever from re-establishing themselves as potential contenders for the Spanish league title.

    Viva Er Beti Manque Lopera!

Actually since '48, when the King's Cup meant something. But yeah, pulling in a 15 kilo piece of silver that created the biggest fiesta Sevilla has seen in a long, long time is something to crow about. But don't feel bad. Maybe your boys can get their 43 points next season. ;)
