    Reading bigger than PSV? You're joking right?

    Reading are one of the oldest extant football clubs in the world (founded 1871), fly-by-night operations like PSV (founded 1913) cannot be conisdred as big as clubs like Reading, Notts County, Chesterfield etc.

    FYP. I think you're mixing up "old" and "big" there. They mean different things, ya know? :rolleyes:

    Here are some example:
    U.S.A.: Big
    Switzerland: Old
    China: Big and Old

    Got it? :D

    Your rebellious refusal to use the face things is causing endless confusion.
    But, Reading does own a stadium, while PSV pays rent, right. The case is building...

    It makes sense really - why bother to buy the stadium when the club probably won't be around in ten years time?

    If you look at the sort of players that have played for Reading in the past: Neil Webb, Keith Curle, Kerry Dixon, Lawrie Sanchez, Shaka Hislop, Michael Gilkes, Robin Friday, etc you cna't argue with the fact that Reading are dfeitnely the bigger club.

    It's like in Formula 1, you have Ferrari who make fast cars as a business, and Benetton, who make woolly clothing. Which one is the real racing team?

    Reading have been playing football since 1871 (we're very fit). Philips make light bulbs.

    Nobody can doubt we have in our history been bigger than Man Utd, Barcelona and Real Madrid. And not just because those clubs didn't exist. How many clubs can boast that they've beaten Milan 5-0 in Milan and been described as the finest football team Italy has ever seen? Can PSV claim that? I don't think so.

    It's sad really that PSV have such a big rivalry with us when we barely even know they exist.

    In what century did that happen?

    (I say this as an avid Reading supporter since Marcus signed on)

    Well, well. look what the bailey boys were up to today (headline off the website, may have missed a word in copying it, but that shouldn't matter):
    Royals beat Benfica and Prague to lift trophy.

    Beyond that, I think we can safely say that while Reading can boast of all this:Simod Cup: Winners, 1988;
    Football League: Division 1 Runners-up, 1994-95; Division 2 Champions, 1993-94; Runners-up 2001-02; Division 3 Champions, 1985-86; Division 3(S) Champions, 1925-26; Runners-up - 1931-32, 1934-35, 1948-49, 1951-52; Division 4 Champions, 1978-79.
    FA Cup: best season - Semi-final, 1926-27.
    Football League Cup: best season - Quarter-final, 1995-96, 1997-98

    PSV can boast of none of it.
    As has been pointed out, the PSV jealously is sad, really.

    I had completely forgotten about the Division 3(S) Championship of 25/26. Though the 31/32 team that finished runners up really disappointed me.

    What the heck is/was/willbe the Simod Cup?

    and what's more, unlike at PSV's place, you can (probably) take a piss in the bushes across the road from the Madejski and not be arrested for three hours and fined 100 euro. They hate our freedoms.

    It was back in the last century. A bit.

    You forgot my complete description: stupid soccer-ignorant yank MODERATOR :p

    Actually I know soccer pretty well, it's that silly version of football those English play without helmets and the tournaments they play in that get me confused.

    For those curious:

    The Full Members Cup was an English football cup competition held from 1985 to 1992. It was also known under its sponsored names of the Simod Cup (1987-89) and the ZDS Cup (1989-92).

    The competition was created after the Heysel Stadium disaster, when English clubs were banned from European competition, as an additional competition for clubs in the top two divisions. However, it was never taken very seriously by either clubs or players, and was cancelled after 7 seasons.

    Winners/Runners Up
    * 1986 - Chelsea 5 Manchester City 4
    * 1987 - Blackburn Rovers 1 Charlton 0
    * 1988 - Reading 4 Luton 1
    * 1989 - Nottingham Forest 4 Everton 3 (aet)
    * 1990 - Chelsea 1 Middlesbrough 0
    * 1991 - Crystal Palace 4 Everton 1
    * 1992 - Nottingham Forest 3 Southampton 2

    So it appears that Reading were 1 of only 3 teams ever to win the Simod Cup (along with Blackburn and Nottingham Forest)??
    Cooool.

    "I went over to monitor three of their players. One of them has since moved on to another club but the two others are more established at their clubs. Now they've got to decide what they want to do.

    "The plan is to have a meeting when I get back on Monday and decide where we go from here."

    ---

    from the Gooch thread thanks to NCGUY

    Gibbs is obviously the one that moved, Gooch might be the 2nd, but who is the 3rd established player?

    Cherundolo possibly, Murty who's the club captain is Reading's RB, but despite being a well-established and well-liked player most Reading fans would concede that he may not be able to hack it in the Premiership.

    Was apparently impressive for scotland, though...
    Given his comments, that he hopes Coppell will give players a chance to prove they can make the step up, and Coppells, that he won't have time to let players prove they can make the step up, I think he believe he's seen as a bench option next season.
    The other player who makes sense is mastro, esp is Sids is actually moving like the tabs keep saying.

    I guessed Mastro in the other thread too (though someone posted here recently that he had an inside knowledge from MLS that was was indeed Pablo).

    Re: Reading and Boro track Liege's USA defender

    I'll be happy with whoever he signs with, but i have to say i'm leaning towards Reading on this one. If he goes to Reading than that's going to be my bandwagon foreign club of 2006-2007.

    Psv is unquestionably the bigger side, these are their stats
    National Champions 19x
    KNVB Cup Winners 8x
    Supercup Winners 7x
    UEFA Cup Winner 1x
    European Cup Winner 1x

    They have boasted players of the ilk of Romario, Robben, and Kezman just to name a few, they have been very successful in the ucl recently too!
