Hi am 23 and the last time i played on an organized team i was 10. I played pick up games at 17 and at 19 i played on a team in a local league. I play defense awesome, I mean its hard to break me and I am very determined. Anyways what i need to know is passing and what other basic things can i do to practice and become better. heck i think i wanna play midy. Now when i was lil the coach said to take shots with toes and pass with the inner foot. If anyone has any sites or adice that will help, it will be greatly appreciated.
simple advice here...something that will help you get better is to have the ball at your feet all the time. Whether you're just walking around the house, to the mailbox, and especially when you're running to build stamina , having the ball at your feet constantly will help your touch immensely. I'm in a similar situation as you are, as I've not played on a team since I was 6 (22 now) but I've gotten back into the game as of about a year ago, starting off with simple stuff like touch and a couple of moves (nothing too extravagant) along with some conditioning and such; Keeping my fingers crossed that I'll at least be respectable in August when our league starts up. Also, when getting back into the mix, just be sure to keep things simple until you really get back into the flow of the game. Good luck on getting back into it!
Sorry, previous posters advice was solid, but I had to interject when I saw this in your post. Passing can be accomplished with any part of your foot, and you should practice doing just that. As for shooting, DO NOT use your toes! Maybe for little poke shots right in front of goal, but kicking with the toes, or toe bashing is a highly maligned technique the world over... it just isnt accurate. You want to learn how to hit the ball with your laces, with the toes pointed down. Lock your ankle in this position by curling your toes under as if you were trying to grab the grass with them. This will help keep you from flipping your toes up at the last second before you hit the ball, and therefore only accomplishing a toe bash again. Make sure you approach the ball from an angle, not straight on. The power in a shot comes from the body's mid section, the twisting motion as you approach from an angle. Run straight at the ball to shoot and its awkward, as well as limiting the power source to just the kicking leg. Now let's talk about the non kicking leg, or plant foot. This is very important, as it determines where the ball will go, and how high or low it will fly. You need to plant that foot right next to the ball to ensure that the ball stays low. Point the toes of that foot at your target, and as long as you strike the ball squarely on the backside, it will go where your toes point. If you want the ball to go higher, plant your foot a little behind the ball, this causes you to lean back slightly as you contact the ball. The final piece has to do with just that. If you want the ball to stay down, you will have to make sure you are not leaning back as you strike it. Most coaches will say that it is good to be leaning over the ball as you strike it, but don't go to extremes. The best way to learn all of these techniques is to go out to the fields and just start shooting.... take along a friend or two and you can work on passing as well. Nearly all of the techniques use for passing can be applied to shooting as well, and the reverse is true as well. Shooting on goal in many situations is nothing more than an accurate pass hit with more pace. Good luck, send me a personal message if you have more questions about technique..... I run my own soccer camps and clinics. I teach this stuff for a living.
