Figure he's going to have some time on his hands by early December. Experienced coach. Has a plan. Knows Columbus. Seems like the perfect fit.
Anybody who employs a system that starts by going through the back line should be automatically disqualified for this job.
Never said it was a good system. But it's a system. And I guess if you have defenders who can handle the ball, it's not bad.
Careful - Andrulis's system was boot the ball up the field past the midfield and try to win the 50/50 ball up top. There was much criticism at the time as it being thoughtless and not creative.
Yeah, no for me. The big worry I have is: the US goes three-and-out, Ggggg is fired, and then Porter gets the USMNT job. [emoji33] Earnie Stewart and others at Soccer House have to be smart enough not to hire Porter, also considering his Olympic failure with the U23's.
That is basically every coach now. Very, very few coaches at the top level now will default to kickball as their primary style of play. Even high pressing systems like Red Bulls still prefer to build out of the back. It isn’t high school soccer, every team will play out of the back and every player has to be proficient on the ball. Even at the academy levels around the world very few coaches use a style of play that doesn’t build out with the back line. It is nonsense to use this as a factor against a coach
I want a coach that ISN'T married to a "system". Coaching should be playing to the strengths of the players on your roster. Santos, Lucas, Cucho, Morris, even Artur, should not be playing a system designed to slow play down every time we gain possession. Why do Americans think the game needs to be regimented, to have a "system"? The game is one of creative beauty, to have a structure in formation but to let the players dictate the actual play.
Without a system, it looks like a U-8 game where everyone is running to the ball, which is how the current team has looked.
The only teams that don’t need a system are the ones that have so much talent that they’ve got everyone hopelessly outclassed. Everybody else has to have a game plan.
But the coach should also adapt to the system of the players on the team. If the new coach wants to install his system (rather than use the strengths of the current players), prepare for a long rebuild.
Stupid Americans and their systems. Be flexible like European coaches. Coaches like Pep, Klopp, Ten Hag, Arteta, Nagglesmann, Pochetino, Xavi, etc would never be bound to a strict system or rigid ideology. Never!!
In principle, yes. He’s adapted HIS SYSTEM to the English league from the Spanish league, which has different strengths, just like he did in Germany with Bayern. You think he just has dudes out there running around? You think he doesn’t have a system? Seriously?
You said “adapted”. A coach that adapted a framework to the league and players he was coaching in. I want a coach that can do that, adapt to the league and players on the roster, not a strict system you need certain types of players to fit. Sari failed at Chelsea because he couldn’t adapt, and Tuchel was sacked after winning the CL when he was found out and couldn’t adapt. As was Porter. Strict systems are different than the ideas the great coaches have. And they can adapt.
