I nearly fell off the sofa Sunday when I opened up the sports section of the paper expecting to get nothing but Super Bowl pre-game and instead opened right to a picture of Ray Parlour and PV4 in the FA Cup match. The article was really about Farnborough Town and the tradition of the FA Cup, but it didn't waste the chance to point out what gracious hosts Arsenal were. Apparently, there were bottles of champagne awaiting the visitors after the match. What a class act. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I love being an Arsenal fan.
If you look in the entertainment section of yesterday's Times, you'll see a great article about Fox Sports World AND BigSoccer.com
I've clipped the FA Cup article out and I'm going to send it to the guy from Farnsborough who's between Ray and Patrick (Butterworth?). I don't know if he'll appreciate the fact that his photo was in the New York Times, but maybe someone will explain it to him someday if he doesn't. The FSW article was cool, too. It even cracks on Comcast for not generally carrying FSW. -G. Rex

you can access most newspapers websites with screenname: bigsoccer password: bigsoccer looks like Jack Bell and George Vecsey are having a bit of a competition at the Times to see who can get their soccer stories published the most.
wow that's awesome. does anyone have access to a scanner or something? i'd love to see the picture that went with it.
I've only been following the team for the past couple of years. Would someone mind telling this story?
Great find, Goldy. What I remember about the incident is that I thought Steve Bruce came across as a massive tool, and that Kanu, having joined the Gunners fairly recently before that match, was extremely eager to do well, and that's why he went ahead and put the cross in for Overdrive. Interesting to see some of those names. Kaba Diawara, very physically imposing, didn't do much for the team in his time at Arsenal. But he's presently doing very well with Nice, the surprise team in France this season.
Almost every Sunday the Washington Post has a picture from the EPL in color on page two of the sports section! I still have the one from May of last season with Tony Adams lifting the league trophy in my office! Its about a 4X6... As for the Sheffield game from a couple a years ago, that really made a big stink. Everyone I knew that was NOT an Arsenal fan gave me stick about them being cheating wankers... That Arsenal gave a replay did little to change perceptions. It was really not a time I'd like to re-live.
actually the post does a half-decent job with the premiership, usually putting in the 'other sports' box the results of most of the matches that happened the day before.
