so, prior to yeasterday's pre-season Ravens-jets game, we happen to meet with a couple of Ravens players at the hotel. Ravens' safety, Haruki Nakamura, said that before every game, half the team plays soccer on the field as a warm-up prior to the game. He said many on the team consider it the best loosener before the big game. I thought it was peculiar...
What's peculiar about it? I've read other quotes from NFL players mentioning that soccer is a good way to warm up, loosen up, etc.
Sure, don't disagree. But to have, literally, near half the team use that as the pre-game warmup was surprising, at least to me.
Lots of hockey guys get touches on a soccer ball before an NHL game to loosen up and NFL guys are playing an acutal pick up type of game to get their motor running prior to their games. Solid stuff to hear when talkin soccer and its place in Americana.
[sarcasm]Once Jim Rome hears about this, he'll probably call them out on his show, telling them they're gay or something similar. [/sarcasm]
