Hey Caddisfly, I don't suppose you've got a picture of you from Korea in front of a scoreboard that reads USA 3 - 0 PORTUGAL
Well I don't know about the Grimandi news being a joke or not, but www.rapidsfan.com certainly isn't a joke. It's here to stay. It just seemed that with the Grimandi news there was no better time to finally launch it.
Looks cool... Easy on the eyes and heavy on the content. If it's not asking too much too soon, what sort of ideas/plans do you have for the site?
Unabashed and totally biased opinions and commentary with no punches pulled, calling it like we see it. And we're not looking for any favors from anybody. Primary intention is to provide an outlet to give someone an idea of what's up with the Rapids. While we'll rarely feature information that couldn't be found on BS, the idea is to provide it in a forum where it can be quickly scanned, without needing to weed through multiple posts. Secondary intention is to have some fun and provide an outlet for the joy and elation over positive aspects of the team, and frustration over the negative aspects. We don't want to position this website as a competitor to BS nor to the official Rapids site; ultimately we'd hope it would be complimentary to both. Releasing news that the team would rather not publicize themselves, and encouraging resultant discussions. I'm sure we'll burn more than a few bridges and piss a number of people off... but if we didn't do that, then what good are we really doing?
Thanks Greenie Glad to see this. Maybe at last we can find out info sooner than a year later. Have the Rapids returned home yet? Yes, I know they played last night, but the Rapids website doesn't. Could someone address the reason why our foreign players don't seem to want to stay here. Is it really the war, or is there something about the organization? This is a question not a statement. I would agree that considering the amount of playing time for ZiZi and Gilles, they obviously couldn't be a big part of the plan. Just one more false moment of raising fans' excitement at a notable foreign player only to have it quashed. Anyway, Go Raps!!!!
Looks good. I am looking forward to getting that extra insider/Rapids addict viewpoint that you guys have been able to provide, like you mentioned, without having to weed through the posts on BS. Added to my favorites...
Excellent... sounds like it will be a great resource, and fill a nice gap between the free-for-all of BS and the week-late, positive-spin content of the official site. Well done.
Nice job Greenie. Can anyone elaborate on our Scotsman's threat to quit last October. I seemed to have missed that.
Greenie is probably referring to what I wrote in my season ending wrap up, as well as info he probably got from his sources. After the final game of the season, I asked Spennie what he planned to do in the off-season to get ready for 2003 and he said that he still had to evaluate whether he was coming back or not. Said something about wanting his kids to grow up in Scotland, and more. I don't remember it exactly, I'll have to refer to my notes. In any case, the implication was that he wasn't sure if he was coming back to the Rapids. This was only about 5 months after he was quoted saying that he loved Colorado and wanted his family to stay here and his kids to go to school here, etc. It was a total shock to hear him do an about face. What I and Greenie found out later was that he wasn't the only one considering this and it had a lot to do with a certain yellow afro-wearing midfielder, who played every minute of every game. His name seems to escape me at present.
Good site, greenie. Two things, Becks' goal wasn't against the Colorado School of Mines. It was against a Canadian team. Also on display for the first time was Alberto Rizo Bautista, already affectionately known as Rizzo. Some did point out that he appeared to fade in the second half, but otherwise played a very smart game at left black; knowing when to overlap and help a counterattack and not stranding his teammates. And Rizo's performance wasn't all that great. I believe he had the worst shank of the night and none of his crosses came close to finding their mark.
True, true. I meant to write "very same field" instead of "team." That's what I get for editorial at 8am, still hung over from the Pearl Jam concert. Site corrected and feedback appreciated. As for Rizo's performance, I can't offer direct feedback since I didn't witness it. However, all of my key feeders for this match were in agreement that he played well, and thus that was the opinion we put forth. Hey, you and I have had disagreements of opinion before, and I'm certain we'll have many more. Now you can just point at a website as well as my posts on BigSoccer. Yep, we're looking forward to making lots of enemies with rapidsfan.com... but even more friends.
Speaking of making enemies, we posted some new updates regarding Grimandi this morning that are sure will help set fire to whatever remaining bridges we have standing. http://www.rapidsfan.com
Wow. Nice work Greenie. Too bad about Grimandi, I guess I won't get to see him play. Personally I am with him about the war, but it seems like an odd reason to quit a football team. There must be more to it.
To be fair, it should be noted that no other major soccer news source has picked up on this story and the Rapids did deny their knowledge of or involvement in this issue. We just don't really know what will happen in the end, and until something is done and official it's only worth taking it with a grain of salt. Remember that Julio Dely Valdes was all but ready to begin renting a house in Denver before his entire deal fell apart.
Bridges? You don't need no stinkin' bridges! Just protect those sources and you will probably be the only sports reporting in this city, or general reporting in this nation, without your sycophantic head up the management's ass. I was loving the idea of having a guy of his ability out there but we don't need another midfielder with a self involved attitude. Why don't we find another skilled defensive French midfielder with serious issues about the war who wants nothing more than the chance to humiliate American opponents. We can put him beside Pablo and tell him that Carlos Ruiz moved to the US just so his income tax would go to support American Imperialist Aggression. That would be entertaining.
Wow! That Greenie sure looks sober considering the US was up 3-0! I know it was a bit of a shock to see the US score that early, but I was smashed by the time McBride headed in the third one. What gives???
