1-1 draw. Goal by Cascio. This feels generous based on our play against DC but I think the home crowd will help the team bounce back. http://view-from-the-couch.blogspot.com/2012/05/rapids-try-to-bounce-back-against.html
Sorry if Mullan is out too, our D will be severely tested. Maybe that will promp OP to put his best offensive team out there to see if pocession will get us a win.
Henao, Edu possibilities to start: http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/05/18/henao-edu-could-make-first-starts-colorado-vs-skc
Wow, Edu's touch looked really off in little bit of game he was in. I would hate to see this, Henao is D-mid if we are going with a Diamond 4-4-2, like previously, it should be an offensive guy for once. I would like to see Hill here since he seems to make good runs to space and looks to attack with his passes. If we are just going to go with a 4-4-2 for first time this year, which might be a smart thing against KC's offense. I could see us going with 2 D-mids. I would really like us to stick with one formation for now so players can get used to it and where players will be at on offensive side.
I understand and kind of agree, but what I was thinking was OP thinking of shoring up the defense by going with two D-Mids.
Man, I would hope this would do it. But our O will suffer even more than it already does. But it might not even be able to overcome Marshall, he sinply looks like an "onfield coach" with his pointing and lack of actual particpating with defending. Really its a damned if they do, damed if they don't situation. Anyone thinking that Casey might be a sub this game- given the physical defensive CB's and him just getting back from Injury?
Hill absolutely deserves the start. He's got a motor like Amerikwa (whatever happened to him, was he ever officially released?), but much smarter/better with the ball.
At least a 100 fold better then Q, but Q is faster, maybe much faster then Hill. Maybe we can get them to race one day. Sure sounded like Q was going to get released. Wonder if he is still in Africa?
Won't be surprised if we lost. But won't be surprised if we tied either... Will be ecstatic if we won.
This is best I can muster. 3-1 KC, until Wynne gets back our D is just way too vulnerable. I also predict Conor doesn't start but comes on early in 2nd half.
Without Mullan and with our defense in its current state, I predict a loss. I won't hazard a scoreline, but I think we're screwed.
I heard a commercial for the game on the radio during the Rockies baseball game tonight. It said "Martin Rivero and the Rapdis."
Don't know where to put this, but I don't want to start its own thread... Omar has been resigned to a multi year deal.
Great news and well deserved I'll be an optimist and predict a 1-0 Rapids win, goal by Casey and another MOTM performance by Pickens
I agree. I know many are unhappy with his play so far this season, but I see too much in him and certainly too much in the recent past to not sign Omar again. Maybe the Rapids were able to negotiate a palatable deal that didn't break the bank. Regardless, I see this as good news and I'm happy to see him sticking around. For tonight: I predict no rain by game time, a passable temp and moisture level for tailgaiting, and a 2-1 loss for Colorado (goal by Rivero, Cascio, or Hill). Am unable to be to optimistic for this one. Although a tie would not surprise me (a win would).
Uh, yeah, that's kinda strange. Marketing to those who still are unfamiliar with the Rapids I suppose.
MRI reveals Mullan's injury is not serious. http://www.coloradorapids.com/news/2012/05/mri-reveals-no-major-damage-mullans-knee
Here are the stats, updated to reflect the midweek debacle. Thug Stats: Last match: Fouls, DC United 9, Colorado 11. Bookings, DC United 2 YCs (Salihi and Najar), Colorado 3 YCs (Larentowicz, Rivero, Marshall). Season totals: Fouls, Opponents 134, Colorado 126. Bookings, opponents 22 YCs, 1 RC, 1 mustard-and-ketchup; Colorado 16 YCs, 1 mustard-and-ketchup. Rapids Front Office scorecard: Last match: + Protected starters = 0 goals, 0 assists, 1 booking (Larentowicz, YC). + RFO throwaways = 0 goals, 0 assists, 1 booking (Marshall, YC). + Newbies = 0 goals, 0 assists, 1 booking (Rivero, YC). Season totals: + Protected starters = 5 goals, 4 assists, 9 YCs, 1 mustard-and-ketchup, 1 own goal. + RFO throwaways = 1 goal, 2 assists, 3 YCs. + Newbies = 9 goals, 6 assists, 6 YCs.
This match will be a challenge. If Mullan is out, the Rapids lose both his ability to fire off a solid cross and his defensive skills. Inattentiveness and lack of defensive communication were serious problems against DC United. Hopefully these issues were addressed in practice. It looks like a chilly night and that might make it a bit tougher on players nursing a knock from the last few matches. KC is always tough. Neither team is exactly in great form and neither team scores large numbers of goals, so this could be anywhere from 0-2 to 2-0. (Or 1-1, if it holds true to recent matches with KC.) Larentowicz is one booking from being penned. Castrillon is two away. Jurisevic is the ref, and he's pretty consistent. He has a quick whistle but doesn't pull a lot of cards. It will be good to see Jacob Peterson again. KC has been playing him more at his natural forward position, but he can't seem to shake the injury bug.
