Coming off a great game against Columbus; question marks: Smith's injury, Pablo's fitness, Folan's usefulness (not really much of a question mark). Tied KC both times this year. I think we have a good shot here.
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:30 MDT, P/I/P As Adam Carola says. Gotta get it on! Got no choice but to get it on!
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:30 MDT, P/I/P It's actually a 5pm kickoff.
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:30 MDT, P/I/P Website says 5:30PM MDT?.. little help here!
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:30 MDT, P/I/P MLSsoccer.com, the email the Rapids sent last night, and the announcement made at the stadium last night all said 5pm. For historical reference though, here's the front page of ColoradoRapids.com
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:30 MDT, P/I/P The game list on the top of MLSsoccer.com also lists the game at 7:30 ET.
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:00 MDT, P/I/P So this page at MLSsoccer.com says 5pm: http://www.mlssoccer.com/mlscup/2011/playoffschedule This page and the top banner says 5:30pm: http://www.mlssoccer.com/schedule The email Marcus sent out last night and the announcement at teh stadium says 5pm. The front page of ColoradoRapids.com says 5:30pm. Guess I have to extend the to all of MLS, not just the Rapids FO on this one.
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:00 MDT, P/I/P I guess we should all assume it starts at 5. At worst, this gives us an extra 30 minutes of pre-game beer drinking.
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:00 MDT, P/I/P The ticket I just printed out says 5:30 and the Television stations say 5:30 so I'm going with 5:30.
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:00 MDT, P/I/P 1. Anyone have a run down on ticket options for Sunday? 2. When the Rapids advance, I think they will play the conference final against the Philly/Houston winner away, is that correct?
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:00 MDT, P/I/P Tickets are for sale right now have been for a couple weeks. The Rapids will play in Philly next weekend . (of course I am assuming a Houston defeat ) No chance of any more games here after Sunday.
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:00 MDT, P/I/P Just got confirmation from Marcus that the game kickoff is now at 5:30
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:00 MDT, P/I/P Correct. Wild Card teams can't host a Conference Final even if they have a better record than the other team. Only MLS can we be rewarded and screwed at the same time by this ridiculously contrived playoff system. We get rewarded on the field by playing in the easier bracket because we didn't tank at the end of the season...and off the field we get screwed on ticket sales/hosting because we didn't happen to be in a conference filled with terrible teams.
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:30 (Tailgate @ 3:30) MDT, P/I/P Thanks Quinn and Centennial.
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:00 MDT, P/I/P My favorite is 1 game play-in Home and away conference semi (really a quarter final). One game Conference final (really a semi-final) One game championship. Why not just make it a mish-mash of stupidity and do: 7 game series to play in 5 game series for the conference semi 3 game series for the conference final One game championship match That way, the winner can potentially have a 2nd 16 game season!!!
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:00 MDT, P/I/P In keeping with the "logic" of MLS playoff format, let's do this: 4 game series for all rounds, based solely on wins and losses, if tied after game 4 the sole tie breaker will be a cage match between the two coaches.
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:00 MDT, P/I/P to bad we wouldn't try to pursue herculez Hernandez the guy was and is still is a beast. would boost ticket sales if we had a Latin player we all know when Mexican team comes to co it looks like we are the away team. bring in some that talent would improve us so much in money our build up i like what we got but i'm looking at it from the fo's prospective we want more fans ticket sales from the city where in. hate to say it commerce city really don't care about the rapids to much... to be honest it's mostly family's who come to our games... if they want to grow bring in money to build the club to la and Seattle new york level... with minor investments into Spanish players would bring so much to our entire team playing level ticket sales jersey sales. i know i'm no that only one who sees this. I know oh but what if we do well in the playoff's why change? well how long can what we got give us success if every season every game counts yes thats our team motto but we all gotta evolve with the game that being said i think we will repeat this year... prove finally get rection as serious contenders then start buying some new guys surely that would bring in some more fans sponsors and kronke willing to keep us at this level. image we could be the sneak up team with championships prior to a change and continue the success in all areas of american soccer.
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:00 MDT, P/I/P Rapdis facebook says we should know the results of Jamie Smith's MRI tonight.
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:00 MDT, P/I/P All this may be way off topic but I'll toss my 2 cents. It's not that I disagree, I think you make a few points here, but I'll play devil's advocate. MLS and its teams are constantly trying to find the "magic bullet" when it comes to attendance and revenue. The latest in this trend is trying to tap into the "Hispanic market"; and I think it's overly simplistic (and possibly a little racist, not you, the concept) to assume that hordes of Latin fans are going to show up just because you stick a guy with a Spanish surname on the roster. I don't think it shows Latin fans (or anyone else for that matter) respect to think that that's all they're interested in. Soccer fans of all ethnicities come to watch the game because of quality and atmosphere. Put a better product out, create an exciting game and produce results on the field and I don't care what a fan's background is, they'll come out and watch. I think that the organization overall, and the supporters groups in particular, do an excellent job of creating an inclusive environment. As far as the Santos game you're referring to, I don't think that's an apples to apples comparison when considering a typical MLS league match. For one thing, at least some percentage of the Santos fans were coming in from out of town for their one chance to see Santos (they would hardly be able to attend a Rapids game in the future). I think the same thing goes for many locals too; recent immigrants who have an emotional attachment to at team (Santos) vs. a team that they have no attachment to (Rapids). My feeling is that the team needs to keep developing (like you said) and focus on playing the best soccer they can and the fans (of every shape, size and color) will come. We have a >10% increase in attendace this year vs. last year already. Besides, the RFO is bad enough at fan relations in general, do you really have any faith in their ability to create demographically targeted marketing?
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:30 (Tailgate @ 3:30) MDT, P/I/P the playoffs need to be changed next year, no question. it's ridiculous that had columbus beat chicago last weekend we would have hosted Houston, but since columbus lost, we would have to travel to houston next weekend if they get past the union
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:00 MDT, P/I/P They need to hire some new guy's then with fresh idea's.... Latin soccer is trending right now and its success is shown if we invest in that type of style... i'm just saying git would increase us alot look at Chicago... not everyone in commerce city is from santo's there a mix and it don't matter if its mexican its popular thats how commerce city is i've lived there my whole life... iguess we just need a commerce city player to get on the rapids and hope his fantastic cuz that would reaalllllllllllllllly boost everything like you guys got no idea
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:30 (Tailgate @ 3:30) MDT, P/I/P How so? Just because the East was tight and there were multiple teams separated by only a point or two isn't and indictment of the playoffs. We were going to host somebody last night, and if we got that far, we were going to have to travel next weekend.
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:30 (Tailgate @ 3:30) MDT, P/I/P I think the playoffs are fine. the only thing that is off is the Eastern Western thing. Let's make it single table with the same playoff minus the separation. That would make more sense to me.
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:30 (Tailgate @ 3:30) MDT, P/I/P Copied from the GS thread in reference to excessive travel by teams, but also relevant to this discussion:
Re: Rapids vs. Sporks, Eastern Conference Semi-Final, 10/30 5:30 (Tailgate @ 3:30) MDT, P/I/P Looks like Pablo won't be available and Smith is out. Wells with the start?
