I'll offer you a job for 100K here in the States working under a guy you know and like pretty well and with a QOL that's pretty damned good .... I'll offer you a job for 500K in Somalia ....
I might add that a lot of Central Americans *do not* like Mexico...and I mean outside of soccer. That may very well have also come into play. He may also see a brighter long term future in MLS vs LigaMx as well. $400k is a lot of money. Hopefully that declination can be substantiated in the near future. Regardless of my comments, I find it hard to believe. Edit: Regardless, again, one has to acknowledge the attribute of relationship building with Central and South America that OP brings to the team. Having the language in common and access to knowledge of the varied cultures in Latin Am. adds to OP's worth.
The Rocky Mountain cup is more than in our reach especially with how we've been playing. With all his criticism I'm making the point that him being here will draw in a quality player and not some over the hill English fella.
For you maybe. Getting paid an extra $400k to live in Somalia is a lot different than getting paid an extra $400k to live in Mexico. I appreciate you trying to illustrate a point that I don't actually necessarily disagree with, but your attempt to illustrate it was pretty awful to be honest.
Panamanian food reviewer writes: "Didn’t find out about these badass Panamanian sandwiches until the last day, but damn am I glad I did. Hojaldres are fried flour fritters — think fry bread — piled high with roast pork, veggies and mustard."
Could be over the life of the contract, say over 4 years. It's still a lot to give up (if true) but if he's looking at his next team as a possible stepping stone, playing for a coach you trust and in whom you have confidence to put you in a position to succeed (e.g., start regularly) is important. Plus if he wants to live in the US/bring his family to the US, that's another enticement.
am i the only one not holding his breathe.... like now all of a sudden we going to get a dp? when this fails whats next?
Anyone familiar with how good the Venezuelan league is? Torres has scored a lot of goals there, but I don't know about the quality of opponents.
Then if it fails we keep moving forward. These whiney, negative posts is why I rarely jump on this forum anymore.
Big swing and a miss. And yes, if the situation were, come here for 500K or go to some place in Mexico for 900K, then i would have considered him an idiot for turning that down. You must have a really terrible opinion of Mexico to not think the same. Now we know it is probably something more like, 400-500K vs. 440-540K*. Knowing the coach and being more comfortable with the situation is a more valid reason for turning down the extra money at that level. *Hypothetical numbers besides the 40k difference. But if he is a DP then his salary has to be higher than $368,750, so 400-500K seems reasonable. Since he is a midseason signing the cap hit will be 175,000.
My thing is yeah we tweeted we would be watching them closely.... its reported we are intrested or trying ot make this happen. but what really are the chances....... after the doyle experiment i'm not getting my hopes up till we know paper work has been filed or bid has been sent to said club. talking bout its fine but where is the actual proof we are trying to obtain him? first were looking at a right back now where looking for a new striker as if ops saying buddle isn't the man for the role....
Actually transfer fee is considered when deciding on a DP. His transfer fee is added to contract salary then divided by number of years. So if he signs a 4 year deal for $1 million, he'd be making $250K/year (not a DP). However if there's a $1 million transfer fee on top of that his total would be $500K so he would be a DP with a cap hit of ~$370K.
jasonma I'm the younger version of you. Soon i will be old and hateful like you arguing with the young blood about the direction the players and what the rapids should be focusing on for growth! remember I share this account with rapidemeritus ii he let me out of the cage to talk today!
we've heard this from timmy for 2 years now tho. until the rapids anounce that we have a huge anoucment press confrence or they tweet torres standing next to op and tim i fail to believe this for all we know the mls will say he has to go through lottery and la get him.
