Whoa. Edit: if they do this, I have to give the FO a lot of credit for trying this. They need a difference maker, and it especially need a finisher. They have lots of depth, but having 15 average MLS guys is only going to bring you sofar.
Yeah I found this out yesterday afternoon. It was killing me to sit on this info. Had to edit the pic of my email so as not to divulge my sources.
We've needed an impact player and I hope he's that guy. With the speed and players we have up top this could make a huge difference the rest of the season.
For the Rapids sake I hope it is further along then still hashing out. I give them credit for making the move though. Could be exciting
What I meant was they were hashing out all the details of the transfer to make it final. And yes hopefully by end of next week.
Missed the Panama v Mexico match tonight, but will be glued to the Gold Cup final now . He's 5-11 and 24 years old.
Gaby Torres sticking it to Mexico in the first Gold Cup match. Pay close attention, it happens very quickly. Enjoy. http://futbol.univision.com/copa-oro/jugada-dia/video/2013-07-07/gol-de-gabriel-torres-panama
A lot of goals for his Venezuelan club, according to ESPN: 11 in 15 games in the Clausura 2013 9 goals in 14 games in the Apertura 2012 4 goals in 6 games in the Clausura 2012 5 goals in 9 games in the Apertura 2011
I posted in the Catch-All thread that the Rapids should be looking at Torres. Now, I would love to say I had some inside info but the reality is I just spit his name out. Mind you, I didn't do it blindly. I have admired Torres for quite a while. His play during the GC just cemented what I already thought. Given the scoring woes it made perfect sense to look at him. For once I'm elated, ecstatic really, that the Rapids are actually going after a player who makes sense, is from the CONCACAF region, and is attainable. I'm glad they aren't looking to pull in some over-the-hill European. If Torres displays anything close to his GC performances his DP status will rightfully be earned. I'm genuinely excited --- finally!!
Assuming it happens, which seems likely, will he be a full DP or a "young DP"? The other thing I immediately thought of was the Rapids have always said/alluded that a DP will follow a jersey deal. Should we expect news on that front too?
All good questions. I am wondering if there is a transfer fee attached and if so, the amount. I assume he is still under contract with his club, Zamora FC of the Venezuelan Primera DIvisón.
