Hey I know a little last minute here, but I am a Rapids fan in town visiting friends and am attending the game. Any recomendations for pre-game fun?
Chico, while your recommendations certainly could go under the heading of "unique DC experiences", I'm going to guess that our man from COL is looking for something a little less lively. Red, good to see the Barra is as welcoming as ever. There are some good bars on Pennsylvania Avenue SE a short 20 minutes walk from the stadium. Check the DC United FAQ thread above. The Capitol Lounge is soccer friendly but they might have Euro 2004 stuff going on. I usually go the MCI Center area pregame as there are several brewpubs and beer bars (Gordon Biersch, District Chophouse, RFD) and you're near a bunch of Metro stations, bus stops, and can get a cab pretty easy.
Why not man? We tailgate next to the water front that's GREAT for all kinds of recreation! Fishing, boating, or swimming. What away fan wouldn't want to spend an afternoon enjoying a dip in our beloved river?!
On a serious note, I have to second Meridian on the Capitol Lounge. Nice bar, and lot's of cabs to catch to the stadium.
If he comes to barra tailgate in crapid colors, we could always see if he would float in/on the Anacostia! GM (I'm assuming this is not Christina, who would be welcome by me anytime, anyplace!)
I'm willing to bet that just about anyone could walk on water when it's the Anacostia we're talking about.
