A game to make this interesting. Pick when the Rapid players will be drafted, protected, or ignored. Points as follows:

1 pt. Picking a Rapid that was drafted by CD Chivas or RSL
1 pt. Picking the player protected in their wake
1 pt. Picking which expansion team takes the player
3 pts. Picking the correct round the player was drafted in
1 pt. Picking a player to be neither drafted or protected

    Unprotected Rapids to choose from:

Antonio de la Torre, 26, defender
    Joey DiGiamarino, 27, midfielder
    Darryl Powell, 33, midfielder
    Jeff Stewart, 24, defender
    Seth Trembly, 22, midfielder
    Scott Vallow, 27, goalie

    Good luck.

    1) DLT to Chivas, 5th round (symbolic first Mexican national)

Powell protected. (Yes, either I am smoking crack, or Rapids management is...)

    2) Vallow to RSC, 7th round. Stewart protected.

    3) Seth Trembley to RSC, 10th round.

Digi the last to leave the table cuz nobody wants him (not picked/Rapids automatically protect)

DLT to Chivas in the 4th round, protect Vallow.

Trembly to SLC in the 10th round, protect anyone (ok Powell).

DiGiamarino, Stewart not touched with a 10 foot pole.

Trembly taken in 5th round by RSL and De la Torre protected. That is all the action we get.

Round 3: Chivas take de la Torre, Rapids protect Powell
Round 9: Chivas takes DiGiamarino, Rapids protect Trembly

Chivas will run out of decent hispanic players to pick from before round 9, when they take Digeridoo because he's got more trading power than anyone else that's left (even though it's not much).

Stewart and Vallow are totally ignored, Powell isn't taken because Rapids smartly protect him. They will also protect Trembly because he's less useless than Stewart and Vallow.

Colorado picks only? Sheesh, this is easy money... :)

Antonio De la Torre 3rd Round by CD Chivas USA
    Rapids protect: Scott Vallow

    That's all.

I'd love to add Powell in the 8th round by ReAL Salt Lake, but that's just a suggested side-bet, no money.

    Cheers,

    Just to muck it up:
    Powell Selected, then Stewart protected
Late round Vallow selected, Trembly protected.

Yes I am crazy to think this is what the other GM would do. But stay with me. The MLS has curiously "made" teams take SI/Contract players (look at us getting Zambrano!!! Diallo's and other multi-stops) to avoid a bad contract situation if the Rapids were to waive him (and no one would pick him up). I predict we'll see each of the two clubs select a star on paper that another team is ready to dump. Part of the deal, boys.

Stewart would've been waived by now if he'll never be OK. If Ok he has good upside as a tall effective defender who is improving.

Vallow is a back-up choice for someone. Maybe RSL as he looks mormon, a little, if he gets a haircut.

DLT is one of a million Mexican national players Chivas could take, and I think they've already lined up their own guys and will *not* go for other teams latino/mexican players.

DiGi & Trem are Ok bench players, both young enough to improve some more, but there are already lots of similar players out there or in the A league. Matter of fact, maybe the new coach will sneak Chris Carrieri back into Rapids Green, err, Blue..or whatever color choice the Adidas/Kronke's choose next.

    RLH

p.s. Press release: "Chivas is stunned to see Darryl Powell available in this round of the draft, and expect the former EPL star to solidify the midfield, making Chivas/MLS a true multi-national power." Yeah, and next year they'll have Chelsea on their schedule, too.

Not in this league. Many LATIN players in the league, but not MEXICAN. I thought their preference was Mexican first, then latin in general.

DLT in the second round by Chivas. Rapids protect Vallow.

Trembly in the 9th round by RSL. Rapids protect Stewart, not wanting to give Digi the wrong ideas.

Nobody else from Los Rapidos gets a glance.

Are they are super-best-friends or what? 0 pts. all around for the Stewart pick. Therefore 0 pts. for Vallow being protected by Stewart also.

If anyone knows how to patch an excel spreadsheet into a post, I can post the table. Q

I had the Rapids pulling Stewart back after they lost someone. (Close only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, and drive-in movies). He is a good inexpensive player in the Key-Martinez sorta tradition. I wish we'd have kept him instead of the others.

I am not suprised that DLT went, although since everyone predicted that, I figured I'm guess the other way.

Note that Jason Kries was unloaded as was Andy Williams....guess we couldn't get lucky and have them take Powell off our hands. I think Powell is a good enough player, but I think he's physically too banged up to be what he was. If wrong, this should be his 'MLS Breakout' season.
