Temporary title until someone can come up with an appropriate title. Official from United though, so here we go! 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗶𝗿, 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘀 👋We have agreed a deal in principle for the transfer of @RaphaelVarane to United! 🔴⚪️⚫️#MUFC— Manchester United (@ManUtd) July 27, 2021 OFFICIAL. Agreement in principle between Manchester United and Real Madrid for Raphaël Varane, confirmed. 🔴🇫🇷 #MUFC“Manchester United is delighted to announce the club has reached agreement for Raphaël Varane, subject to a medical and to player terms being finalised”. #Varane pic.twitter.com/atMaeD6Zgt— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) July 27, 2021
Canr believe we have secured 2 major signings before season begins.. Improvement surely but we need a DCM and Pogs need to stay.
Manchester United | Premier League | Monday 26th July 2021 | Varane & Maguire Partnership Could Be Crucial to Man United's Silverware Chances (thesportsman.com) Curious to find out which will be the better partnership (and ultimately best backline as a whole) for this coming season between Varane-Maguire, Diaz-Stones or van Dijk-whoever (Gomez-Matip-Konate?). Guess we can even potentially add Evans-Fofana (Soyuncu?). Varane, while he comes with tons of experience and a serious winners' mentality won't have the burden to be the leader (he could develop into one of them in time perhaps). Just have to work on forging a strong partnership with and complimenting Mag, along with the other members of the back 4. Sancho remains a fun (and obviously excellent) signing on its own. But this is huge as well, as it could have a big influence on the team (starting obvs with the backline and midfield). Probably going to wait to get my Sancho jersey until next year when he gets #7. But will be going for a Varane this year, no question.
The inside story of how Man Utd snared Raphael Varane, a decade in the making (telegraph.co.uk) Interesting (and great) to see that Varane's motivations are well beyond monetary ones. He wants to be at the club and looks to have been convinced enough about what is going on, that he may be able to add something of value to that. Has to be mentioned also, this looks like good work from the club in this instance.
Plotting already, lol. Haven't lost all hope that Rafe can help sway Pogs towards staying long term...

He’s ready to fly to Manchester today. The Visa issue is finally to be resolved in the next few hours - original plan was to fly earlier this week. 🔴 #MUFCNow: quarantine, medical and then official announcement. Raphaël Varane now landing in Manchester in order to complete his move to Manchester United. Confirmed. 🔴🛬 #MUFCOfficial announcement soon. Varane's already got his MUTV subscription #mufc pic.twitter.com/EV6ChdKT8D— Samuel Luckhurst (@samuelluckhurst) August 7, 2021
The problem with social media. He has been living in a housing bought by United for quarantining purposes and I am sure they have MUTV in there.
Wouldn't surprise me if all United players get MUTV access. Cannot hurt and would help with building a relationship with the club. My guess is he will be on the bench for Leeds and hopefully we are in a position to give him 30 minutes.
You can tell he doesn't own the place because he's feeding his baby over carpet... Only a psychopath would do that in a home they owned.
Silky smooth stuff from Rafe. His official unveiling appears to be scheduled for later this week. Raphaël Varane practicing in quarantine 💪🇫🇷 pic.twitter.com/ExSFMbk5UF— utdreport (@utdreport) August 8, 2021
Raphael Varane has completed the first part of his Manchester United medical. He will undergo the second part tomorrow morning and his move to United will be officially announced in the next 24/48 hours. (Source: @FabrizioRomano)— Transfer News Live (@DeadlineDayLive) August 10, 2021 Can see Varane making the bench vs Leeds (at a push) but very unlikely he's starting, having barely trained with the team...
Raphaël Varane's announcement will be pushed back to tomorrow. He has completed his medical and posed for photos etc. His number is believed to be previously unoccupied by a player #mulive [@samuelluckhurst]— utdreport (@utdreport) August 11, 2021
Good news, we managed to get him registered before the deadline. He's ok to play against Leeds from a paperwork standpoint.
And I have to retract. Two decent sources on twitter said we got him under the line, but still no official announcement. Who the ******** knows? Someone should be fired over this. First Cavani and now this. What good is identifying and actually signing players but not having them available to play? What the ********?
Yeah, definitely frustrating. The club has blamed quarantine rules, but didn't Lukaku just join Chelsea within like 72 hours? Not sure what this is all about, but it's annoying that he's not ready to go tomorrow. He'll be up and going for the next match though... I hope!
The truth is that there are some complex things going on behind the scenes. But this is the fault of the system we have for transfers and the hierachy at the club. I believe the issue with Varane was to do with personnal image rights. A transfer to/from Madrid is going to come with that level of complexity for us because I think we are making some strides in the image rights arena. But it cannot help to have Woodward still hanging around and the lack of a clear pecking order wrt transfers and the running of the football side of things. That said, I don't think Lukaku is registered for the weekend, but I could be wrong.
