White woman, so she gets the news.

I my world, the behavior by the male is not unusual. Not the norm to be clear, but not unusual. Starting in at least high school, but some cases middle school. FFS, there was one guy who had charisma, but I could see the violence and disrespect towards women in his actions. I warned off as many of the female students as I could. Some tried to protest. But a few months later he was caught up in some kind of violence (not that kind) and several seemed to understand.

And this student I'm talking about was so obvious that I actually told the girls whom I did that he would probably abuse them. I was blatant about it. Because I've seen the signs so often.

But if one of them had died because of his abuse...Black and brown (or non-White) women/teens don't get the same coverage as White women.

    For example:

    https://www.cbs58.com/news/homicide-investigation-underway-near-5th-and-ring-in-milwaukee

Has the marking of a sensational story.
Both were murdered right down the street from a school (happens to be the one I worked at).
Daughter appears to have been shot trying to protect her mom.
Murderer tried to flee the state and his mom told him to turn himself in.

Yeah, they are Black women. Just gets a small mention.

  4. Yes, but what I pointed at was the kind in that example, the murderous predator. What you point at iirc from the news is almost all within relationships, hardly ever a random encounter of a man with a victim. Only the number of missing native women alone in the States already dwarfs what we see in Europe.

  5. This is what I mean:
    https://www.cbs.nl/en-gb/news/2021/39/fewer-homicides-in-2020-but-more-young-people-killed
Many female victims killed by (ex-)partner
In 95 percent of homicide cases among women in the period 2016-2020, the police had identified an offender. In this period, the alleged offender was the partner or ex-partner in nearly six out of ten cases where the victim was female. Domestic circumstances, such as a marital strife, were the most prevalent motive. Women were often killed in their own homes with a stabbing weapon, by assault or by strangulation.

In 80 percent of the male homicide cases over the period 2016-2020, an offender was identified. This (alleged) offender was an acquaintance or friend of the victim in three of the ten cases. One in six killings were linked with organised crime. Three-quarters of male victims were murdered with a firearm or stabbing weapon.

Few murders in the Netherlands compared to other countries
In Europe, the Netherlands is among the countries where relatively few murders are committed. Iceland, Slovenia and Luxembourg have the lowest number of homicide cases per 100 thousand inhabitants. In countries of the former Soviet Union, such as Russia, Ukraine, Latvia and Moldova, the number of killings is relatively highest.

Unfortunately this graph is only available in the Dutch text.

  6. https://newsmonkey.be/de-laatste-moordcijfers-bevestigen-belgie-is-een-veilige-plek/

    7. Europe is twice as safe as the rest of the world With a murder rate of 3 percent, Europe is doing as well as Oceania and Asia, and twice as well as the world average (6.9 percent). America and Africa are pulling the average upwards with a ratio of 16.3 and 12.5 percent, respectively. In absolute terms, that means 22,000 murders in 2012 compared to 157,000 on the American continent or 135,000 in Africa.

    Julie Van Espen:

More recently there was the open letter of Wout Van Steenwinkel that caused a lot of shock. His mother Nathalie was victim of a hyper-violent rape during a jogging session (the rapist left her for death after beating her face into a pulp). The reason her case got a lot of attention is because she requested euthanasia for reasons of extreme psychological suffering in the aftermath of her rape/assault.

But the Van Steenwinkel case made we realize we only ever hear about those events with the most tragic of outcomes. The thing that got the attention of most of the press was the fact that she asked for euthanasia due to the psychological issues she was dealing with, for years after her rape. I had never even heard of the original case, even though it was hyper-violent. Her injuries were so extensive that she needed countless surgeries to reconstruct her face and to this day her sense of taste and smell has not recovered.

    R. Kelly is convicted of child pornography

CHICAGO — A federal jury on Wednesday convicted R. Kelly of several child pornography and sex abuse charges in his hometown of Chicago, delivering another legal blow to a singer who used to be one of the biggest R&B stars in the world.

Kelly, 55, was found guilty on three counts of child pornography and three counts of child enticement.

But the jury acquitted him on a fourth pornography count as well as a conspiracy to obstruct justice charge accusing him fixing his state child pornography trial in 2008. He was found not guilty on all three counts of conspiring to receive child pornography and for two further enticement charges.

    Yay!

He's rich. He's famous. He has plenty of people willing to cover his ass, some of whom he pays (lawyers, PR people, etc) and hundreds of thousands of whom he doesn't have to pay (his fans, esp. those who went after the journalists who broke this story way before it ever went to the courts -- Jim DeRogatis and Dream Hampton especially. If it wasn't for DeRogatis reporting and his book, and Hampton's documentary Surviving R Kelly, he would still be free).

In addition to what the good Dr. said, there was also some intimidation going on. Not to mention, that these were kids, and it often takes a long time for them to get the confidence to come forward.
And that in the R&B community is sexist.
And that he was perceived as powerful.
And that he was perceived to have a lot of charisma.

Keep in mind that I have taught kids who were, literally, sex trafficked. So there is some first hand experience I'm speaking of. Not directly to this case, but many of the aspects of him are typical child abuser/sex trafficker.

Rule of thumb is that it is present and to not be surprised if it occurs. Particularly in entertainment fields.

All of the stories coming out of Iran currently are super-grim. Including reports of large-scale slaughters at universities. They are going to wipe out an entire generation of young people if this keeps up.

Just a note, but the displays of civil disobedience (there are many issues) are being discussed in it's own thread. While there are many things which are relevant here, I recommend everybody take at look at that thread.

Considering this is a soccer forum, I'm surprised this has not been posted here.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2022/10/03/nwsl-abuse-report-sally-yates/

Abuse and misconduct were pervasive and systemic at the highest tiers of women’s professional soccer, and the sport’s governing bodies and team executives repeatedly failed to heed warnings or punish coaches who abused players, according to an investigative report released Monday by the U.S. Soccer Federation.

The report for viewing is here: https://www.kslaw.com/attachments/0...Spalding_-_Full_Report_to_USSF.pdf?1664809048

There are also discussions occurring here and here.

    I'll drop this here:

Some of the misconduct dates to predecessor leagues and some to youth soccer. The roots of abuse in women’s soccer run deep and will not be eliminated through reform in the NWSL alone.

Even before reading those sentences, I had two questions:
1 - Knowing what the results of the Nassar investigation and trial were, and how widespread the abuse was, of all kinds (I'm thinking immediately of Béla Károlyi), I'm wondering what will be uncovered as to the depth and breadth of the abuse in women's/girls soccer.
2 - Knowing that Béla Károlyi came from Romania, and there were reports of his abuse there, and that there have been sporadic reports of abuse of different kinds from China, specifically, as well as the recent ******** up of Russian figure skater Kamila Valiyeva, and sporadic reports out of England, both regarding WPS league as well as the recent problem at Chelsea corporate*, I'm wondering how wide spread the abuse is internationally?

I'm guessing that we will find that if any investigation will be like an iceberg.

    * - Not having a go at Chelsea, or saying they are the only problem, just noting the recent news.

Okay, guy is a moron/creep. Until he starts talking about porn. Then he becomes something completely different.

As if chasing a woman down the street is not bad enough.

FYI, he starts on the porn part at 1:42 for anybody wondering. Or as a warning.
