How would you rank the top leagues of the Americas? Here is my ranking: 1. Brazilian Serie A 2. Argentinian Primera Division 3. Liga MX 4. MLS 5. Colombian Liga
Is this only based on "if you get all the teams from this league to compete against all the teams from this other league, x league would win more games, thus be better"? Or is player development, how many players you sell to Europe, how many of those players you sold to Europe succeed, how many of those players play in top leagues/clubs? Cause when it comes to MLS for some reason the haters bring up some lame agendas. If we go with the 1st then your order sounds about right. I would even go as far as saying Argentina and Liga MX could be interchangeable but that's just me.
I'd say MLS is closing the gap with LigaMX; the lack of TV revenue the last thing stopping MLS from swapping places.
One thing that MLS does have is a much smaller gap between the top and the bottom teams. The gab between the top teams in the other leagues mentioned and the bottom can be massive. So if you are judging by random league matches being competitive, MLS might be at the top. But, as mentioned, is only one of a very large list of things to consider. In no way am I saying that MLS is the best ,nor that MLS teams are the best, but that if you turn on a random match, you will be able to see two teams, close in ability and skill playing.
What are the criteria? The Argentine Primeira has 28 teams, some of which have USL Championship level payrolls. 10 entire squads get paid less than Hector Herrera.
I don’t but I’m just assuming Liga MX gets better TV money overall when adding US and Mexican deals. I guess I should say the clubs in aggregate rather than the league as a whole.
Due to relegation and historical fan base, there is a huge discrepancy between bottom, middle and top teams in South America. Teams that access Libertadores has a significant cash flow and exposure. MLS and MX desperately needs quality regional league
The Primera is expanding to 30 teams next season. I'm not sure if that means the second division is dropping from 38 to 36.
