I did a statistical ranking of all the teams through the group stage. I used stats that I found had a large correlation to winning, and then weighted each statistic and compared to the field of 32. I broke stats into passing, offense, and defense scores, and then weighed those into an overall score. Here were the rankings I came up with, and my summary can be found here.
30: Australia, 0 points, -6 GD 29: Japan, 1 point, -4 GD 28: Iran, 1 point, -3 GD (1 GF/4 GA) 27: S. Korea, 1 point, -3 GD (3 GF/6 GA) Wow , if it where not for Cameroon and Honduras The Asians would have been in trouble .
Here would be my rankings for the remaining teams going into the knockout round: 1. Brazil (didn't see anything in group stage that would make me want to bet against their 30 year competitive match home streak) 2. France (think they're really being slept on a lot for how dominant they were prior to securing entry to the next round) 3. Germany 4. Argentina 5. Colombia 6. Netherlands (actually have a feeling they're gonna lose to Mexico but I can't justify rating them that low) 7. Chile 8. Mexico 9. Belgium (kinda feeling a R16 upset here too but can't justify the rating) 10. Uruguay (what an insanely tough bracket they drew) 11. United States 12. Costa Rica 13. Nigeria 14. Switzerland 15. Greece 16. Algeria
Agreed. I'm not sure if these are team rankings or ranking on scoring. It'd be helpful if there had been a webpage left to examine. All we have is a website called "who scored" and some of the top scorers shown in the graphic. Again, let me repeat, I'm not sure if this is actual team ranking in total, Ochoa did well for Mexico in the net, Mexico had 2 goals disallowed vs. Cameroon. Without more info, this graphic is of very limited use and I went to the website to look around.
