This always comes up for discussion so I will start it now as we await Uruguay's official arrival. I've just ranked teams by Confederation and will integrate them later on. Its much easier to rank the sides by region but a little harder to mix the whole lot as we have little to go by but friendlies and perhaps the confederations cup. Conembol 1. Brazil 2. Argentina 3. Uruguay 4. Colombia 5. Chile 6. Ecuador UEFA 1. Spain 2. Germany 3. Portugal 4. Italy 5. Holland 6. France 7. England 8. Belgium 9. Croatia 10. Switzerland 11. Bosnia & H 12. Russia 13. Greece CAF 1. Ghana 2. Nigeria 3. Ivory Coast 4. Cameroon 5. Algeria Concacaf 1. USA 2. Mexico 3. Honduras 4. Costa Rica AFC 1. Japan 2. South Korea 3. Australia 4. Iran As I said I will integrate the full 32 at a later time. I'd like to know what others think, either a full 32 or by confederation.
^ lol, Iran ranked below S.Korea whom it defeated twice in a row to top its Qualification group and Australia which is practically an Asian minnow atm.
Yes it is, it is actually very.interesting. WCQ and the worldcup itself are entirely different things. Playing teams u know well in your region is different than playing teams from other parts of the world. Then theres the motivation of "just another WCQ game" as opposed to.much higher stakes matches. I guarantee u Portugal will have a much more successful WC than Russia. I would way rather.play Russia than Portugal Ecuador than Uruguay Iran than S. Korea Costa Rica/Honduras than Mexico

Instead of quibbling with other people's list, mine is as follows: UEFA 1- Spain 2- Germany 3- Italy 4- Netherlands 5- Portugal 6- France 7- England 8- Belgium 9- Switzerland 10-Russia 11- Croatia 12- Greece 13- Bosnia (even though they are probably my favorite UEFA side) CONMEBOL 1- Brazil 2- Argentina 3- Colombia 4- Chile 5- Uruguay 6- Ecuador CONCACAF 1- USA 2- Mexico 3- Costa Rica 4- Honduras AFC 1- Japan 2- South Korea 3- Iran 4- Australia
This is really one of the deepest World Cups in some time. Don't have a single surprise team really or very weak teams. UEFA representation is deeper since we don't have Slovakia or Slovenia. No South Africa and one more solid South American team instead. And no NZ or North Korea.

Agreed I dont really see any major teams missing and I think each confederation pretty much sent their best teams for once. I will also say this, whomever people think is the worst team at this WC, I dont think they will be a guaranteed 3 points for anybody except maybe this rampant Brazil side.

I'll rank teams a bit differently: Tier One (the favorite): Brazil Tier Two (potential semifinalists/finalists, but with flaws): Germany, Argentina, Spain, Netherlands Tier Three (potential quarterfinalists who could also crash out in the group stage or make the semis depending on the draw): Chile, Colombia, Uruguay, USA, Mexico, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Japan, Italy, France, England, Portugal, Belgium Tier Four (would be very happy simply to make the knockout rounds): Ecuador, Costa Rica, Honduras, Korea, Australia, Iran, Cameroon, Algeria, Switzerland, Greece, Russia, Bosnia, Croatia
It's like everyone just watched Portugal play yesterday and decided to rank them based on that. Come on. If they were that good they would have won their group instead of dropping silly games and barely making second place. I'm a fan of Portugal, btw, but no way are they top 10.
