Rangers have a new captian...

Stefan has been a magnificent servant to the club and deserves this recognition.

Klos isn't the most vocal, but rest assured, when Alex Rae is playing, he will keep the other players on their toes.

And after about 11 years of service to Rangers, Craig Moore wasn't ?

Let's hope Stefan isn't called up for his country in any way, anytime soon.

 

Moore was pretty poor during his first spell at Rangers (albeit he was played out of position by Walter Smith), and the only reason he came back from Crystal Palace was because they couldn't afford an installment of the transfer fee. He played well alongside Amoruso for a couple of seasons and we will be grateful to him for the contributions he made in garnering so many trophies.

However, Moore's attitude last year was pretty poor. He seemed to be an abvious choice as captain after Ferguson left, but it didn't seem to inspire him at all. We went through some bad patches last season, but Skippy couldn't motivate the troops to turn things around on the pitch. Moreover, saying he wasn't going to sign a new contract until he saw who the club were going to sign gives the impression that he's not 100% satisfied at the club, so how could he continue as captain after that. Then, to compound matters, he's fannying about at the Olympics when he should have his mind set on helping Rangers qualify for the Champions League and getting off to a good start in the SPL.

Klos won't shoot his mouth off about goings on at the club, he has been a consistently brilliant performer for us over the last few years, and has sacrificed his international career to play at Ibrox.

 

There is no question that Klos is an outstanding player and a total professional who clearly deserves this recognition etc etc.

I've stated elsewhere how I like/rate McLeish. However, he's either had no choice or made the wrong choice.

By no choice, Klos was the Vice Captain, or at least captained many a team when Amuruso/Ferguson or Moore didn't play. He has also consistently delivered for Rangers and could easily have moved on. So not giving him the Captaincy may have pissed him off enough to leave?

With such a new/young/foreign team an outfield leader who knows what it's like to play for the - preverbial - jersey and earns respect through skill/positive contribution (ie not a bully) would make more sense.

Alex Rae was touted when Moore went in one huff too many. He might be 34 and was a mad bastard at Sunderland, but he's matured and still has enough puff to play in every match. He'll surprise many next season.

 

I think Klos has the respect of all the players who were at Ibrox prior to this summer, so that's probably why he was chosen ahead of Alex Rae. However, as previously stated, Rae will stamp his authority on the place in no time at all, and will make sure the troops pull their weight. You don't need the armband to be a leader on the pitch, and I would like us to have 11 players out there who constantly urged each other on, something that was sadly lacking last year.
