Horrible MLS circa 2005 type trap from Rangers defender, not Sands, that leads to multiple quality chances for Union.Rangers lucky to survive. Now VAR in play against possible Rangers handball in box, Tavernier. Penal. It’s Goldson. Harsh PK call but technically correct.
2-0. Can‘t say it‘s not deserved. Outside of the first ten minutes clearly the superior side. We aren‘t playing Livi anymore guys.
I understand when hands get in the way of a shot. Deflection that could be going out for a throw in? Yeah, harsh.
I was wondering if it was Sands on the poor trap that led to the sequence. Glad it wasn't as it ultimately led to the goal. As I type that, their CM gifts a breakaway. Rangers are not at this level.
Good news is Sands may have started so so, but their other guys in back have been simply terrible in half two. Sands, outside of being lucky not to get a red, has been OK. Tillman non existent. Gonna get a told you so text from my friend in Munich soon
The compact nature of the Union defense left me wondering why no short air ball over the defense diagonally to wingers. Rangers were given space for cb to advance in the middle but Rangers kept trying to force it thru on the ground.
Tillman needs to develop the habit of moving into space for that run and calling for it. Only remember seeing him try that once tonight, and it was really a cut into the middle where the keeper anticipated the long ball well anyway.
Rangers didn't look very good but were probably good for just the 1-0 loss... that penalty was something... Rangers can still do it but you can tell they lost a lot of talent from last season...
I think he finds space well, but it‘s in more passive positions where he can combine, or he has to dribble past someone. As has been pointed out, when it comes to getting into lanes that will lead him directly toward goal, he simply doesn‘t do it. I was warned that if you want Tillman to solve the US goal scoring issues it would be mistake. He is more of a complimentary player. I‘m hoping that being at Rangers, and having so much of the ball, and have fans expect him to produce, will sharpen that part of his game. That being said, if Rangers can make it 1-0 that stadium will turn insane. Can Union handle that? I hope we can at least see that.
Today is the return leg in UCL qualification. Rangers are controlling the game, but not really creating much. Tillman is kind of balling, he just received a really hot pass from a teammate and had an insane Cruyff kind of touch to a teammate. He's playing pretty wide on the right, hitting low driven crosses. Sands without a whole lot to do.
Ok, he's looking better. 33' takes ball in right channel, dribbles laterally and chips a ball into the box for a runner, just cut out.
40' Fouls a USG player just outside the box. Very fortunate not to concede a penalty as it was a very clear foul.
