This is an interesting idea, and a very novel revenue generation tactic: Have separate sponsors for home and away kits. Allows the team to sell a second shirt sponsorship and sell more shirts to the fanbase. SPONSORSHIP NEWS: Bundesliga club @VfLWolfsburg_EN has become the official away kit sponsor of NISA club @ChattanoogaFC. It is believed to be the first time globally such an agreement has been secured. https://t.co/oOZmwPZMuS— Bob Williams (@WilliamsBob75) April 15, 2021
Is this the first time another club sponsored another club's jersey? The possibilities are endless....
I wonder if the Columbus Eagles and/or FC Columbus would accept $50k for a giant Crew logo on the front of their jerseys. What better way to invest in a local product AND the beautiful game? And $50k is pennies if your name is Haslam or Edwards. (Assuming their leagues would allow it.) Speaking of those teams, didn't QuesoBoy get asked about stadium rental fees and he wanted some astronomical price? Then again, with Crew II on the horizon, I wonder if FCC could be on borrowed time.
I think there will still be a place for FCC. Crew 2 will be a developmental tool for young players they have coming up through their system or they bring in. FCC is for guys either trying to find those opportunities or older guys who have missed that opportunity and still want to play at highest level they can.
Fox just signed a HUGE deal for CONMEBOL. Over 1500 hours: 2021 – CONMEBOL Copa America 2022 – CONMEBOL Women’s Copa America, qualifiers for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ 2023 – CONMEBOL Beach Soccer and Futsal 2024 – CONMEBOL men’s and women’s Olympic qualifiers 2024 – CONMEBOL Copa America and CONMEBOL Women’s Copa America 2025 – CONMEBOL U-20 men’s and U-17 boys’ World Cup™ qualifiers 2026 – CONMEBOL Women’s Copa America
I do wish they had the men's WC qualifiers, for easier access. Some of those games are the wildest in the world every few years.
BREAKING: ESPN is expected to announce this Thursday that it has acquired the U.S. rights to LaLiga in a major deal for the broadcaster and Spanish league. All of the exclusive details 👇https://t.co/Ujcm2LPw0i pic.twitter.com/yewV0WFtXm— World Soccer Talk (@worldsoccertalk) May 11, 2021
Tbf, La Liga has been on BEInSports, which required an extra subscription for many cable or streaming subscribers, so moving to ESPN/ESPN+ is technically just trading one paywall for another. In this case, if you also watch the Bundesliga, Serie A, Eredivisie, etc., you're actually getting a consolidation and paying less.
Monday night: NCAA Men's College Cup Final. Marshall University in their first national championship in school history vs Indiana University. 8pm. ESPNU.
Marshall beat perennial powerhouse UNC in a very weird game. They scored one goal on exactly one shot and won 1-0. North Carolina had 11 shots, five on goal. UNC also had nine corner kicks to NONE for Marshall, while Marshall was called for 19 fouls while the Tarbeels were whistled for just ten. In short, North Carolina beat the pants off them everywhere except the scoreboard.
KC draftee Jamil Roberts scores 3 minutes before the game was going to kicks. He also scored the lone goal in the semifinal win over UNC. Marshall was unseeded in the tournament. As we all know, in soccer, when you're on a roll anything can happen. INCREDIBLE 😱Unseeded @HerdMSoccer scores with less than 3 minutes left in OT vs No. 3 Indiana to claim Marshall's first national title! pic.twitter.com/BuvhEwHsSJ— ESPN (@espn) May 18, 2021
