he made his first mistake when he picked Theo Walcott. But that's not where it ended. a) playing Rooney by himself b) Not moving Becks to Right Back so he could start Lennon c) Not benching Frank Lampard who was horrid from the opening minute of this tournament. d) Hargraeves over Carrick. e) for 4 matches he saw his team playing shit football - and he never changed a damn thing. He's Bruce Arena with a more talented team
Bruce Arena had a good plan, but it was executed by incompetent players. The players should've played better on the field.
I think you and Sinner are both right. Arena had the basis of a good plan....but when it started unraveling a bit when some of his players started performing poorly...he got even more conservative and scared.
my fave soccer team is............... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Club_Deportivo_O'Higgins Club Deportivo O'Higgins
Arena is an intelligent and tactical coach... the problem was that the players didn't execute, and were intimidated... only a few players (Deuce, Conrad to name a few) performed with no fear... After the Czech game, the USA played it safe IMO... Plus, the European teams played as if they owned their turf... I expect them to possibly get a bit unnerved in South Africa, much like what happened in Korea/Japan in 2002 but that's just me... Something for the US team in 2010--try to be battle hardened for the crucial third game--each time that happens they tend to play shaky... Hey, I'd rather go 3 and out than not qualify... a lot of players would trade everything just to play in a World Cup game...

Lance had a larger heart-lung capacity than the average human. That's how he won. Until then, reserving judgement for Floyd. If it turns out to be so, should have booted him out at that time.
