hi. haven’t posted here in ages and i most probably won’t again after this but i just wanted to share this. a japanese youtube channel uploading old football videos has a highlight video of arsenal vs japanese national team match in 1968. members names are in description. really hard to tell what’s happening most of the time but i thought you may be interested. please feel free to delete it if it’s inappropriate. i still come and lurk here for information, gossip and different points of views. thanks for that. just surprised that my account was still active

Vini doesn't defend and that's a dealbreaker around these parts.

Could he be like Dembele at PSG and play as a 9? He'd be expected to press but wouldn't have to track back as much.

That would be nuts. I can't really bring myself to believe this could happen. Not sure how well Vini would fit Mikel's system & ethos. But if we could integrate him, his sheer skill level could be transformational.

p.s. This should really be in the transfer thread. @yossarian you wanna move these posts over there??

Gonna be out for an extended period, but apparently no surgery?

Not that surgery would have "solved" the problem, but anyone who's ever had back injury issues knows that even after his extended layoff and "recovery" he will continue to fight a losing battle that nobody will be able to predict. All that can be done is to manage, and react and adjust to how his back responds to the level of competition.

I hope for the best, which is all we can do.

I'd like to say I'm cautiously optimistic. But in truth I'm more cautious than optimistic. Backs are tricky, have a tendency to be chronic, and sometimes very very acute. And the key (but vague) phrase from that press release was "out of action for an extended period"

Still I'm glad they spoke publicly about this as soon as they did. But if they're seeing light at the end of the tunnel, it may mean 1 less defensive signing than we might've been speculating about.

Don’t think we see Saliba play in 2026

    Probably.

Even still, if the consensus is he doesn’t need surgery, I’d probably roll the dice and not sign a stopgap. Mosquera and an apparently fit White with Timber and Salmon for the right side of the back four feels like they can make it through January. If Saliba is still not near a return we reassess.

Honestly £350 is a pretty good weekly allowance for a 16 year old

    1) Assuming that's not a typo, I guess they're not allowed to pay a 16YO proper footballer money?

    2) The real problem is that these are weekly numbers, i.e. Saka earns ~1.2M monthly or 15.6M annually. That's just wrong. And if we sign Vini, the whole thing is probably gonna creep up even faster.

Speaking of "looks like", I've always wondered who is that in your avatar? A younger Jason Sudeikis? or you? or ??
