Apparently there's no Calafiori thread yet, so I'll put this here... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/brand:p02nrsln A nice little interview of Riccardo. Showcasing his near fluency, but more importantly his refreshing transparency and candidness. Long may that last! He also talks about how playing CB is relatively new for him, having spent most of his career at (L)FB. Etc, etc. Worth a listen. If you're like me, you'll probably like him even more after hearing him.
Arseblog did an interview of Martin Keown this week which I found interesting. Maybe you would too? https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podca...e-arsenal-podcast/id281128135?i=1000675275909 Perhaps the most interesting chat was about Wenger’s liberating management style. Also, apparently everyone other than the Irish have been mispronouncing his name for quite some time.
I disagree as a policy because there is a difference in standards of proof Rape does need to be proved beyond reasonable doubt in a criminal case, but that is not the standard in civil HR/employment matters. If there exist significant grounds for suspicion against the player i.e of misconduct, then it should be investigated and action taken We've seen that at Man U. The investigation collapsed but MG was also clearly 'guilty' at least to a civil standard. Man U tried to go against that quite cynically and the public wasn't having it. Arsenal have been quite craven about this IMO but I don't expect better.
Well, you have her text messages with him and you have a supposed NDA where he paid her off and then she returned the money. It shouldn't be hard to corroborate whether those things exist.
I think most would agree with that. And if that doesn't happen in June, then many of us will be quite angry with club mgmt.
In other news, there was discussion on today's Arsecast about a possible stadium renovation. There are no-brainers like improving the WiFi and GSM signal. But I was more surprised to hear them talk about raising capacity to 80K without raising the roof line. They talked about dropping the level of the pitch, but with the current slope of the bowl, it's hard to imagine how that would work. Perhaps if they were able to redo the slope of the stands altogether, to make it less a gentle bowl and more vertical and intimate, I'd be totally on board with that. BUT that's another "renovation" I have a hard time imagining is easily possible... without a complete tear down, which I have to assume is not on the table. If they do major structural changes and we're without a stadium for 1-2 years, and we have to play at Wembley (again) I'm not sure how on board with that I'd be.
Most rapes aren’t. Im not arguing that Partey should be in prison, but like @The Jitty Slitter and @mebeSajid have said, he shouldn’t be an Arsenal player. The club have handled this situation poorly and deserve ridicule.
Just in the nick! (or perhaps rushed slightly) Because of White going under the knife and Timber perhaps having to cover RB.
Ignore the fact he also can't stay healthy, I actually think Tierney fits this team now more than ever. Tierney is an excellent crosser, and we now have someone in Havertz who can make runs and is great with headers. His overlaps then also help Martinelli, who while he has gotten slightly better lately still struggles with making certain runs. Tierneys overlap runs splits the defence meaning Martinelli gets less double ups and opens up different channels for him to make runs into. If he wasn't likely to get immediately injured playing for us, I would actually be all for Tierney at LB as a traditional LB and having Timber at RB drifting into MF.
That strikes me as an odd thing to say. Seems to me that Marti has been one of our biggest effort, most energetic players, on both sides of the ball. If we had an Energizer Bunny award, I'd say he'd be in contention. What I think he needs most is development and diversity of skills, as both an offensive provider and goal scorer. And the confidence that can enable those skills.
I'm not sure how common or to what degree a player of Martinelli's age can learn a diversity of new skills. But I'm no expert on this topic either. Are there any examples of wingers making a significant leap after 4 seasons in a regular starting role? If anything, he's steadily regressed since his 15 goal season 3 years ago. I would love nothing more than to see him become a world class attacker with all the confidence of an Mbappe, or Vini Jr, or whatever. That's probably a bit of a reach for him, but guys like that don't just show up at the professional level looking to learn new skills, they already have them, and they fine tuned them over the years. Are there examples of young, promising, fast, fearless attacking players that really blossomed into elite players that I should consider a more fair comparison to Martinelli?
IDK if there are examples, and I'm too lazy to think about that right now. BUT I will say that I have my doubts about Marti. His ceiling seemed so high and still kinda seems that way. However his development has stagnated, if not regressed. I believe I said at the start of the season that this was a make or break season for him at Arsenal. Now he's got 70% of the season left to prove something. Assuming he stays injury free.
Oh I am not saying I want him back, just as we should be looking to sell Jesus/Zinny for the same reasons, I am just saying unlike previously where there wasn't really a role for Tierney because we were going for an inverted LB no matter what where as now he now could fill a role in the team. Its not that I want him in the team, just pointing out that he (or a better player with a similar skill set) would be better suited in the team now than previously.
