According to Micahel Lewis, Nick is going to meet with defender Ramon Vega in the next few weeks: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/story/29279p-27826c.html Here's some background on Vega: http://www.soccerage.com/en/04/03162.html Your views, please.
you sure nick is actualy meeting with Vega, I thought Nick was only allowed to set up the meetings Bradley wanted....
maybe bradley sets up the meetings for nick.... maybe bob is not a deal closer. who knows. no doubt in my mind that bradley accepted the job on condition that nicko has absolutely no say in player acquisitions....
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! From what I remember, this guy SUCKS...but he's a Swiss international, and he's not 46, so it's a start. He might be okay for MLS, though...
The best that might come out of this is "Marcelo Vega and Ramon Vega are not related" Did You Know item on MetroFanatic.com
1. Vega hasn't played for the National Team in years. 2. He is a quality defender, very good physical presence. Should've stayed with Celtic - he did very well there, winning the domestic treble in short time. Ramon Vega (left) after winning the Scottish Cup Final
IF I recall rightly, he stepped into the Glasgow Celtic squad on a loan deal, and was an effective defender, although not necessarily the leader of the team or defense. Did a decent job with few complaints from fans. Even headed in a goal or two from setpieces. After the season/loan, he wanted a contract that Celtic thought was unreasonable ($20-30k per week I think) so he headed back to England. Celtic fan respose was more "OK, thanks for stepping in and doing an acceptable job. Good luck in the future". He was not run out of town, but fans didn't riot over his leaving either. Positives: Was an effective defender who can add maturity to the defense. Negatives: Possible bad attitude or self-centeredness as evidenced by unreasonable contract demands? Will he give 100% effort to metro? Time will tell.
Good on the ball, decent size. If Bob goes to three in the back, he could have Vega playing the Kubik role, with Jolley and Petke as marking backs, and Akwari tracking back on the right side.
