Whitbread was not offered a new contract by Derby. http://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/Der...list-2015-16/story-26486415-detail/story.html
Not surprising given his injury woes. However, when healthly Zak has always been a good performer. Maybe his "hometown" Houston Dynamo, with Owen Coyle of the helm, can take a look at him. IIRC, they are in need of a CB.
he hasn't lived in the US since he was two and doesn't have American family. it probably isn't really that appealing to him on its own. from mls standpoint, he's an oft-injured Championship/League One player. some of those type signings have been successful in the league but if you take away a few YNT appearances over a decade ago no one is really speculating.
While Zak would never be mistaken for Stu Holden on the ball, he was a very decent prospect. Seems like injuries got the best of him.

I had been predicting for a while that the Revs would go after Heath Pearce, since he's the sort of signing that fits their MO. I guess I picked the wrong broken-down 30-something Euro-based defender!
Confirms some of what we already knew. http://m.mlssoccer.com/news/article...-whitbread-drawing-interest-new-england-revol
Some one on the MLS reddit had pointed out how it's probably not the best that a guy with a history of leg injuries probably shouldn't be joining a team that plays on turf.
The percentage of games he misses every year is staggering. He has some talent, no question, but he better be willing to take a huge pay cut to make it make sense
Well, Revolution are the kings of making good players take a wage less than what they deserve. But unless he's desperate for a job, I don't know why he would leave home for a subpar wage.
I'm not a Revs fan, not that I dislike them, but I wouldnt get too excited the guy is hurt more often then he plays which has been the only real reason I've followed/commented on this thread, his injury history is amazing and then one day all the sudden he's playing somewhere. Its entertaining.
So this is how it ends? Not with a bang, but a whimper. Someone will come calling in next few months when their defender gets injured. Might be League One though.
Time for a new title? May I humbly suggest: Cast your Whitbread on the water, after many days will you ever find it again? Zak in the wilderness. What it lacks it brevity it more than makes up in pretension!
