Um, have they announced the Rookie of the Year yet? Because on the MLS Web site, in their run down of the Fire and it's players, there's this description of Damani Ralph:

    8. Damani Ralph (23)
Burst onto the scene with 11 goals in his rookie campaign, his power and pace causing many a defender some difficult moments and leading to his selection as MLS Rookie of the Year. Second on the team to Ante Razov in goals, the pair formed a formidable strike partnership. The club’s second-round pick out of Univ. of Connecticut in the 2003 SuperDraft. His play led to another appearance with Jamaica, against Brazil in October. International: Jamaica 2/0

Or is it a typo and they forgot to add the word "candidate."

It is supposed to be announced at the gala awards saturday night but really it should be a foregone conclusion.

    14. Chris Armas (31)
A standout in his holding midfield role, also a member of the U.S. team for the FIFA Confederations Cup. Sent the Fire to the final with his golden goal against New England. Named MLS Comeback Player of the Year after last year’s heartbreak when a knee injury dashed his World Cup dreams just days before the start of Korea/Japan 2002. Has started three MLS Cup Finals: in 1996 (when he scored Los Angeles Galaxy’s second goal), and 1998 and 2000 (for Chicago). International: USA 50/2

They did the same thing with Chris

I was wondering the same thing. In the smae article, they also listed Boca as Defender of the Year and Armas as Comback Player of the Year. They didn't mention Razov as MVP candidate or Thronton as Goalkeeper of the Year candidate....

    Hmmmm...

Nothing for Onstad or Thornton. Kevin Hartman: Goalkeeper of the year.

If you read the Yallop bit again, they are referring to the award in 2001 after he lead the team from worst to first.

Hmm... well in that case, neither Dave or Yallop got it. Who was the other person?

Does MLS HQ read BS? 'cause the article's been upodated with the word 'finalist' added to each of the players that had previously been tagged winners. They didn't bother to add that Razov, Thornton, and Sarachan were also finalists.

Yeah, MLS reads the boards. And it has been changed. Unfortunately for them, too late. Dumbasses. Way to leak the info. Not like I care, but come on! seriously.

    MVP: Preki
    Comeback: Armas
    Rookie: Ralph
    Coach: Sarachan
    Keeper: ???
    Defender: Bocanegra

If B.O.B wins COTY I WILL buy a ticket to the awards ceremony just to yell "WHORE"...and maybe I'll stay for the game.

Could the Fire sweep the ceremony? I think it is a possibility with Goalkeeper being the weakest link with MVP being second(sorry Zach, I think you're one of the best and deserving of the award, but I got a feeling you might not win this one. Please don't eat me). :D

Don't call Bob a whore for going home. Jeez.

Now, if you want to yell something like "score board" or "record book" or "loser" or "Dave's pupil" that might be a) tasteful and b) more accurate.

    pssh. Whore :)

  17. Hey - B.O.B. deserves a little credit for not publically admitting he made the biggest mistake of his life. I mean, the lifeless gloss in his eyes say it, but he's at least a decent PR man.

New Award: Career Fvck Up of the Year Award.
candidates - Bob Bradley and, uh, R. Kelly.

I really like Bradley, he did a lot for us...however, he took a team that took 4th place in the east (and only missed the playoffes because the brilliant LA exemption didn't exist last year) and got them all the way up to third place in the east.

I don't see how that warrants consideration.

    True.

But just as our team is obviously the class of MLS, so, too, should we be. What ever we do, it will only reflect poorly on the team. And no fan wants that.

    Ok Eric Wynalda :)

I suppose we shouldn't boo Hristo and Marco every time they touch the ball either ;)

No, we should boo them whenever they're on the field. Just boo louder when the get the ball.

Nope. We should continue to heave loaves of bread at Hristo because he asked for it. And he and Marco should be booed for their poor play.

Eric was wrong. Marco played like a hack the entire series. The booing, if anything, began much too late in the game, IMO. But then we were sort of concentrating on winning at that point.

Bums should get the treatment. But a coach who wanted to be closer to his family and worked his tail off for us for five years should not be called a whore.

It shows ingratitude. It is immature. It's unclassy.

And we aren't that. You boys in S8 have proved that with the impressive organization you've coordinated to do the things you do while "working" with a very obstinate stadium management.

Does Bob deserve COTY? Obviously not. But that decision -- which rightly should be criticized -- should not result in him being verbally belittled by Fire fans.

Just as those fans who partied with Lubos Kubik recently (in NY and Friday) have "forgiven" him for having to ply his trade in [shudder] Dallas, shouldn't that forgiveness extend to Bob now?

Let's face it, he's going to suffer for the rest of his life coaching the Scum. We should make that suffering worse by making any past association in his mind with the Fire a heavenly one. And one great way is by showing him the great fans he left behind.

Just a correction, but I believe we have to forgive Kubik for killing DaMarcus while he was on the Burn.

And Bob left us, I think that's why people feel they should boo. I wouldn't boo him unless he were actively coaching the opposing team.
