Looks like Woody's in Cary is one of the few bars in the triangle that has Setanta Sports USA. I finally was able to get Directv and have it, but I figure many in the area won't. The problem with watching these games at a bar is the time. We'd need to have enough people interested in coming out at 7:30 am or whatever to make it profitable for the bat. A NC Glasgow Rangers supporters club does this at Woody's so we may be able to watch there. I'd surely be up for at least a few big NC Arsenal meet ups. Anyone else interested? If so maybe we can form a supporters group similar to the ones in Dallas, New York, Washington DC, Chicago Philly, and San Francisco. I'd be willing to help organize it....
I would be willing to help you organize it as well. For the CL final, we were able to get about 8-10 Gooners out to the Hibernian in Raleigh. However, in talking to the manager, they don't get Setanta and probably won't either. I have heard about Woody's but I don't know where it is located. I have started venturing into Cary more often, but I haven't seen any sports bars of interest. Starting a supporters group in the Triangle would be very cool, considering how many footie fans live in the area. Hit me up with a PM if you want to figure things out.
You guys might want to call SoccerDome America. I think they have Setanta on their big screen tv in the concession area and I bet they'll be open at 10am on Saturday. www.soccerdomeamerica.com
The guys at soccer dome tell they do indeed have Setanta and are open on Saturday mornings. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
We have FOR SURE got a local viewing venue for tomorrow's match: Woody's Sports Tavern 8322 Chapel Hill Rd Cary, NC 27513 (919) 380-7737 The manager, Aaron, is going to open the doors around 0915 - 0930 to let us watch on Setanta. Probably not a whole lot of effort for him to do it, but it means a lot to me, for sure! ANYONE who can make it, please do. I promise that 1) there will be a few Gooners there, and 2) we're there to enjoy the match!
Props to echo for the info. I talked to Aaron, and I told him that we were looking to start an Arsenal supporters club there and he was very receptive. Come on out to Woody's tomorrow morning!
Echo and I will be at Woody's tomorrow to watch the Gunners play. It would be cool see more Gooners there. Cheers!
What he ( ^ ) said! Looks like Rangers v. Falkirk will be on tomorrow (10am) at Woody's as well, so there'll be a pretty good sized mob of friendly 'Gers supporters there as well. Come on out, folks! Seriously!
FYI...both Hibernian in Cary and Bull McCabes in Durham will be opening up at 10 am on Saturdays for premiership football. Both have setanta, goltv, and fox. I think Hibernian will be open on Sundays too. Lets get out to the pubs to make their efforts worthwhile. I'll be at BMC on Saturday even though there is no Arsenal game.
