http://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/department.cms?departmentId=9&issueDate=2003-03-31 Basis of the deal: - RadioShack will be Dallas' uniform sponsor - RadioShack will become the 'official presenter' of soccer Saturday - TandyCo reportedly doled out a couple mil for the privlege. Local sponsor. Not too shabby.
Thanks Hala ... Not too shabby is sooo true. Wonder if they 'had their hand' in the Frisco maneuvers.
It truly is remarkable how the Burn went from being a target of contraction to potentially becoming one of the more solid franchises. We now have ownership. A soccer specific stadium for all purposes is a reality. Finally, we have have a local sponsor. What would top all of this is a MLS Cup. A little more than a week away.
We have an OFFICIAL owner? Radio Shack Corporate HQ are in Dallas? Will Shaquille O"neal be at the stadium opening day?
I am more intreested in what Mark Cuban is doing today... having a press conference to announce the HDnet tv deal... ------------------------------------------------- DON GARBER AND MARK CUBAN TO aNNOUNCE NEW BROADCASTING INITIATIVE ON THURSDAY MLS Commissioner and HDNet President to discuss new partnership via toll free media conference call tomorrow (April 3) at 12:30 p.m. ET NEW YORK (Wednesday, April 2, 2003) - MLS Commissioner Don Garber and HDNet President Mark Cuban will discuss the details of a new MLS broadcast partnership tomorrow (Thursday, April 3) at 12:30 p.m. ET. Following their brief opening remarks, both executives will be available for a question and answer session with media who join the call. Also participating on the call will be the initiative's newly assigned broadcast talent, which includes an American soccer trailblazer and a veteran MLS broadcaster. Details for tomorrow's toll free conference call follow.
So Radioshack is the answer to this... Garber stated that the league has been aggressively pursuing corporate sponsors, and is proud to have recently inked agreements with Gatorade, Puma, and Tide, as well as a new sponsor of the Dallas Burn, to be announced later this week.
Official announcement with big press conference a la Jerry Jones, Mark Cuban, Tom Hicks, never has occured. As we all know, unofficially this has been a done deal for a while. Tandy Corp aka Radio Shack is based in Downtown Ft.Worth. Which year are you talking about 2003 in Southlake, or 2005 in Frisco? I dont know if we can find an Inferno T-shirt large enough to give to the big fella!
Yeah I know - maybe he will announce at the Kickoff Luncheon. Either one. And lets see if we can get Teri Hatcher down here too. She has some fantastic assets.
While I do agree with you about Teri Hatcher's fantastic assets. I would love it even more if we could get Howie Long down here. The big tough NFL football guy peddling MLS soccer... Delish!!!
