It reminds me of something that is in contrast to the Dutch "Canadians are good guys" general feeling.
Some years ago I watched the news about Canadian WW II vets in the Netherlands for the Remembrance days and the reporter doing the coverage noticed a weird tension between some vets, whites and Indians (the feathered ones, not the curry ones). He talked about it to the Indian Veteran and learned the whites discriminated the Indian Vets by ignoring them or whatever shit one can do.
The Indian Vet however was in a good mood and not willing it to be spoiled by some racists as he enjoyed the admiration and inclusion of the Indians by the Dutch schoolkids. These just saw heroes, not colours.
It still seems a overt racist problem that flies in the face of the notion of those nice Canadians.

A lot more are protesting in other parts of the country in solidarity with the Wet'suwet'en protestors, occupying government offices and in the case of those nice Mohawk folks, they are mischievously tampering with emergency rail continuity hardware on rails lines, that notify the operator that there is a problem / break in the rails, causing them to have to shut down freight / passenger rail service

Canadians get to be "nice" because they are contrasted with US americans. In WW1 units raised in Nova Scotia were segregated. I don't know it any black Canadian units were raised in other provinces. I don't think that school segregation, at least as it pertained to blacks, ended in Nova Scotia and Ontario until the late 40's early 50's. No other provinces had a significant black population.

 

Canada as a culture is about 50 years behind the US in the stages of colonizing racism, likely because Canada stayed Commonwealth & didn't pull the Exceptionalism bullshit. But you're starting to see it with their own versions of Liz Warren, where politicians use tenuous at best claims to Native / Metis ancestry to use as both a shield against N8V critics and as validity to claim to speak on behalf of FN/Metis/N8V. One I saw recently claimed she was Metis because her parents had adopted a N8V girl as her sister

Many states have done rural 911 Emergency address assignments, so technically that gives them an "address" even though they still get mail at the PO Box or RR Box.

Plus, everyone knows those folks when they go down to vote at the closest church / VFW hall.
